Oxenfree II: Lost Signals Guide – 7 AM

Olivia Goes In The Portal |

Riley Goes In The Portal |

Jacob Goes In The Portal |
There are three different endings in Oxenfree II and if you’re after all the achievements/trophies, you’ll need to play the game multiple times to unlock everything. Jacob’s ending is arguably the hardest to unlock, which we’ll explain further down the page (or by clicking the link above to jump down).
Olivia’s ending is the proverbial “happy ending” for everyone and makes the most logical sense, but similarly Riley’s ending is also a nice way to give a cautionary tale toward past problems and facing one’s future. Either way, let’s dive in!
Olivia Goes In The Portal
If you chose Olivia to go in the portal in the 5am chapter, Evelyn will be on the radio thanking you for a decent first day on the job. She wants you to sign up for another job in a month’s time and doesn’t seem to have any knowledge over what’s happened. Of course, it’s up to you if you want to accept this or not.
A bunch of kids will pass but one will come and sit on the bench next to you. It’s Alex. She’s back with her mum and is doing well at school.
The pair will discuss Olivia and her choice to stay in the portal. Alex will call you a good mum and then hurry off to be with her friends. Take a right from here and you’ll run into Athena. Follow her down onto the docks where Jacob is sitting in a contemplative mood. He remembers everything.
This time, Jacob will talk about some pretty deep, philosophical thoughts regarding life and what it means to be human. He’ll also apologize for not offering himself to the portal, but admits that he always knew it would be Olivia given she “needs it more”.
In the middle of their conversation about how time is eternal, the scene will suddenly change.
Alex has sent a lock box to someone who looks over the items through a POV shot. There’s a really nice breakdown of different stats through these items here, including the percentage of players who made friendships, masks for the parentage cult and even individual letters and flyers.
Riley Goes In The Portal
If you choose to sacrifice Riley the the portal, Alex’s dialogue may just have tipped you over the edge in the 5am chapter. After all, she’s seen many different versions of Riley’s future and eventually she’ll “hit a wall too high to climb over and too wide to go around” regarding her ties with Rex. It’s going to be her nightmarish relationship with her father all over again.
Regardless of the selfless decision you choose from the dialogue, the group will disappear and Alex will say goodbye to Riley.
When you awaken, you’ll be back in town again and a younger Rex will run up to her. Riley is now going to be living eternally with her son, in a moment where the two are both loving toward one another.
Rex will lead you up on the way past the general store to the summit, but before you do, there’s a few things we can do. Open your radio and you’ll be able to hear various reports from different characters. One of those is Shelley, who – if you remembered to tell her to stay put earlier in the game – will have survived the storm.
On station 88.1, the high-school channel, Maria will give a special shout-out to Riley alongside Violet and Charlie.
When you’re done, keep going up the path and the conversation will turn to Jacob and a school report. Riley will tell Rex to be careful on the slippery log (a nod to an earlier flashback we saw in the game) and then have a dialogue option to either tell Rex “I love you” or “watch your step”.
If you choose the former, Rex will reveal that he loves Riley too. If you choose “watch your step”, Rex will ask what you’re doing tomorrow, hinting at this being a time-loop and the same day repeating ad infinitum. Either way, we’ll eventually fade to black.
We then open to Alex’s narration, who has sent a lock box to someone who looks over the items through a POV shot. There’s a really nice breakdown of different stats here, including the percentage of players who made friendships, masks for the parentage cult and even individual letters and flyers.
Jacob Goes In The Portal
Sending Jacob into the portal is a different ending to get because it requires you to make specific dialogue choices all the way through the game. If you’ve been nice and shared secrets with Jacob, choosing him in the limbo realm will see him outright refuse. He’s seen and cares too much to throw his life away and live in memories.
In order to get Jacob to go into the portal, you need to spend the entire game being horrible to Jacob and making sure you don’t reveal any secrets to him. If you do this, Jacob will actually volunteer himself when Alex is telling Riley to make her choice.
Jacob’s decision will be spurred on by the fact he has “nothing to live for in Camena.” He even nonchalantly waves off Athena, deciding Riley can look after her.
When Jacob heads into the portal (you can choose whether to hug him goodbye or not), you’ll be back in town again. This scene will cross-over from Olivia’s, and repeat the same dialogue from that ending.
A conversation with Alex will see her call you a good mum and then hurry off to be with her friends. Take a right from here and you’ll run into Athena. Follow her down onto the docks but with no Jacob, you’ll sit together and Riley will reminisce on her favourite Jacob moment. We’ll then fade to black.
Opening up again, Alex has sent a lock box to someone who looks over the items through a POV shot. There’s a nice breakdown of different stats that ensue, including the percentage of players who made friendships, masks for the parentage cult and even individual letters and flyers.
Closing Thoughts
The ending to Oxenfree II is ultimately left in your hands, and while tearing dear old Jacob from Athena is a heart wrenching decision, you’ll need to do it if you intend to 100% complete this game.
But could you let Olivia go through the portal? And what of Riley? This poor soul has been battered by life and somehow continues to soldier on.
By the end though, whatever choice you make will determine the ending you receive. Which one did you go for? Were you happy with your decision? Let us know in the comments below!
