Ninja Kamui – Episode 8 Recap & Review

Episode 8

Episode 8 of Ninja Kamui begins with a monologue from the CEO of AUZA Enterprises, where he talks about his state-of-the-art AUZA reactor, which produces 2.5 million kW/s. This is the equivalent to 1.5 nuclear power plants. The reactor is complimented by a newly discovered energy source, ku-barium that can produce unlimited heat via fusion reaction.

It is clean and low cost, says the CEO. The CEO is trying to build more power plants for it but he needs more support from the Department of Energy. The Secretary is opposed to this, but the CEO has already bribed everyone and has secured the necessary orders.

Elsewhere, Emma tells Higan about Yamazi’s plan. Part of Yamazi’s plan is to let AUZA use his forces as their muscles. They play on seizing all energy infrastructure and assume control of each country from the inside. Emma continues that the organization is no more than AUZA’s puppet, and Yamazi and the others with him no longer have honour or respect for the ninja way.

As the episode progresses, Emma detonates an EMP bomb. This fries everything that runs on electricity, giving Emma and Higan a chance to escape the city. Emma now plans to head to an unfinished power plant and use the energy there to power the Gusoku Gear. They also plan to steal some portable energy tanks. Emma also asks Higan to not let his emotions and anger distract him if he is to use the Kamui armour to its full potential.

Emma breaks into the atomic facility and steals the portable energy tanks. However, as she’s exiting, she is attacked by an AUZA assassin, but Higan intervenes and saves Emma one more time. Higan faces the armoured assassin that has metallic caterpillars in its hand but is having a hard time defeating it. Emma tips the scales in her favour by shutting down the power supply, and the villain has to leave.

Elsewhere, Mike lets Jason know all the secrets that AUZA is using ninjas to clear their competition and enemies. Mike promises to protect Jason and asks him to find out anything he can about AUZA. However, Jason needs a computer to do that. Thus, Mike breaks into the office and steals Emma’s laptop, but Jason is having a hard time breaking in as the encryption is way too robust.

When Emma gets a notification about it, she leaves a signal for Mike, asking him to meet her at the bar where they always used to go. It is the same bar where Mike gave Emma a huge lecture about letting her teammates have her back.  As the episode nears its end, Higan and Emma pay a visit to Mike and bring him up to speed on everything that has transpired, including Emma being a ninja.

However, Mike isn’t happy as, after all they’ve gone through together, Emma still doesn’t trust Mike. Emma apologizes to Mike for what she did, and the latter shares about his deceased daughter. Soon, they discuss AUZA’s plans and the technology they’ve developed. However, they’re still short on evidence and need to gather more data if they’re to expose AUZA’s secrets to the world.

The Episode Review

Ever since Higan got his armour, the show has definitely stepped up its game. However, some fans have noted that the action scenes are a bit short, which doesn’t have as much impact as they’d like. Hopefully, upcoming episodes will improve on this aspect.

Another interesting plot point is the mystery surrounding why Yamazi is working with AUZA. While it’s known that he’s providing them with ninjas, it’s unclear what he’s getting in return.

AUZA’s goal is to control all the world’s countries by seizing their energy resources. So, the big question is whether Yamaji has his own plan or if he simply wants to share in the profits.
