Night Has Come – K-Drama Episode 4 Recap & Review

Night Has Come episode 4 picks up where we left off, with the students struggling in the darkness to find their phones and vote. As expected, it is as hectic as you can imagine, and some get hurt. Unfortunately, the announcer keeps announcing more participants’ deaths, and they commit suicide.

Even as they get their phones, they struggle to decide who to vote for. This changes when So-mi votes for Eun-ha, and the rest follow her lead. Even though Eun-ha votes for So-mi, it is too late. Yoon-seo tries to save Eun-ha by asking the remaining participants to split their votes and vote for someone else, but it is a done deal. 

On the other hand, Kyung-joon finds Hyeon-ho’s phone and throws it away. Sadly, Hyeon-ho is unable to find his phone and hangs himself. Watching Na-hee desperately call out for Hyeon-ho was heartbreaking!

The voting ends, and Eun-ha emerges as the most-voted member. She lashes out at everyone for siding with So-mi before leaving to execute herself. At this point, most civilians have died, and the participants are yet to find even one mafia. Once again, the announcer starts playing the lullaby song, and the students fall asleep since night has come.

The next morning, Yoon-seo wakes up after being startled by a dream where someone is being strangled. The students wake up and find Hyeon-ho’s body still hanging from the auditorium. They also realise that Joo-hyung is dead. She was strangled to death by the mafia during the night. The announcers inform them that Joo-hyung was a civilian. She also announces that the doctor used his healing ability before the previous voting ended to save  Cha Yoo-joon.

The students blame Joon-hee for advising them not to vote and ask him to take responsibility. He apologises and despondently walks out. Kyung-joon quickly tries to remove himself from any blame. As things worsen, Joon-hee contemplates leaving the designated area and dying but decides otherwise. 

Meanwhile, the students continue to argue about who is to blame. Jung-won insists Kyung-joon is the most suspicious, but he tries to deflect Joon-hee. He says he was smart enough not to trust Joon-hee and hand over his phone. It is not his fault he is more intelligent and lived. Yoon-seo asks them to stop arguing over the game. She claims they only have to find the game’s creator and can all walk out safely. However, they first have to put the bodies in the freezer. Some students, especially Kyung-joon, initially refuse to help clean the bodies, but he is cornered and forced. 

Later, Yoon-seo asks Joon-hee to stop blaming himself and help find the person behind the game. Once again, Yoon-seo finds herself alone in the freezer and hears a strange noise. Upon investigating, she finds a small wall opening and sees a ghost approaching her. She panics and screams, alerting the other students. They assume she is having an asthma attack and give her an inhaler before she faints.

Yoon-seo wakes up in the infirmary with Na-hee, who explains to her what happened. Na-hee is taking the loss of Hyeon-ho hard, which is starting to affect her mental strength. 

Elsewhere, the other students discuss the game and suggest they come clean about their roles, but no one takes the bait. Kyung-joon points out that Joon-hee might be the mafia because many civilians died when they decided not to vote last night. This was Yoon-hee’s suggestion, and he is on top of the list of people most likely to be mafias.

However, So-mi argues that even mafias died after following Yoon-hee’s suggestion. The students turn their attention to Cha Yoo-joon’s friends, saying they might be the doctors who saved him. Of course, Yoo-joon’s friends quickly deny these allegations. 

Soon, one of the students mentions that So-mi was the one who first voted for Eun-ha. The student points out that Eun-ha had exposed So-mi for what went down with Dong-hyeon. So-mi hits back at the students with allegations of her own, adding more confusion to the story.

The conversation turns back to Kyung-joon and why he hid his phone. Kyung-joon blames the Woo-ram for being complacent in killing Lee Joo-young after being rejected. The arguments continues back and forth, with everyone listing even the slightest issues the students had with each other. In the end, Kyung-joon is the first to vote, and he votes for Woo-ram. They even nearly get into a physical fight.

After seeing Kyung-joon vote for Woo-ram, his minions follow suit. They then decide it might be dangerous to stick just as the three of them. They find more people to recruit and bribe them with food from the snack shop. 

Yoon-hee tries to convince the other students to stay and discuss, but they leave. Soon after, more people start voting for Woo-ram. A campaign begins in the centre as everyone tries to prove they are civilians. Yoon-hee starts blaming himself for not stopping the students from voting again. 

As the time nears midnight, Woo-ram asks the other participants to vote for Kyung-joon as payback. He cautions them that it will only be a matter of time before Kyung-joon comes for them. Yoon-hee and his friends decide to vote for Kyung-joon. The clock continues to tick, and Ji-soo and Yoo-joon are the last to vote. Woo-ram goes to find and convince them to save him.

After voting, Yoon-seo shows Ju-won and Na-hee the wall opening she found and decides to check it out again. This time, she trips and falls through the wall. She discovers a room full of computers monitoring the students.  

The Episode Review

Four episodes in, and we are as clueless as the students. We do not know the people behind the game or who to trust. It is likely that So-mi and Kyung-joon are mafias since they always have a rebuttal attack at the tip of their tongues and quickly get away with things. I am surprised no one even mentioned what Kyung-joon did to Hyeon-ho! 

It is also likely that Yoon-seo is one of the mafias. The dream at the start of the episode might be her remembering how she strangled Joo-young. They may be subconsciously controlled once they fall asleep. This would explain why they wake up without remembering what happened once the night came.
