Thor: Love And Thunder (2022)

The God of Thunder isn’t the only one to wield his magical hammer in this latest entry from the MCU as Jane Foster makes her return to the franchise and steals Moljnir away from him when she becomes the Mighty Thor! Together with King Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) and Korg (Taika Waititi), they team up to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) who is on a revenge mission against the gods. The movie divided critics due to the silly tone and parodying of Thor’s character but it still delivers as an action-packed spectacle.

Pinocchio (2022)

Robert Zemeckis is the director pulling all the strings in this live-action retelling of the puppet who wants to become a real boy. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth stars as Pinocchio, Tom Hanks stars as Gepetto, the lonely woodcarver who treats him like his own son, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt lends his voice to Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio’s guide and voice of reason. This isn’t the only Pinocchio adaptation due out this year – Guillermo Del Toro is also bringing a stop-motion version of the classic fairy tale to the screen – but Zemeckis’ adaptation seems to be a remake of the 1940 animated movie rather than a direct interpretation of Carlo Collodi’s work of fiction.

Tierra Incógnita: Season 1

This spooky new series follows Eric Dalaras ( Pedro Maurizi ), a teenager who, following the disappearance of his parents 8 years earlier, has been living with his maternal grandparents. He returns to his childhood hometown and the Tierra Incógnita horror theme park where his parents vanished in search of answers about their disappearance.

Wedding Season: Season 1

Hopeless romantic Stefan enters into a relationship with Katie, even though she is already engaged to someone else. This is problematic enough but matters become even more complicated when Katie’s husband and entire family are murdered on her wedding day. Whodunnit? Stefan is the police’s number one suspect but he thinks Katie is behind the murders. They both try to prove their innocence in this action-packed romp that sees both characters go on the run as they attempt to clear their names.

Cars On The Road: Season 1

Fans of Pixar’s Cars movies will want to tune into this brand new animated series which follows Lightning McQueen (Owen Wilson) and his best friend Mater (Larry the Cable Guy) as they go on an adventure-filled cross-country road trip together.

Mike: Limited Series – Episodes 1-6

The tumultuous ups and downs of Mike Tyson’s boxing career and personal life are explored in this 8-episode series that also examines the class and race issues that exist in America and how they played a part in Tyson’s story.

Growing Up: Season 1

The challenges, triumphs, and complexities of adolescence are explored in this innovative hybrid docu-series that focuses on 10 individuals who each share their experiences of ‘growing up.’ Creative cinematic re-enactments are used to highlight their journeys towards self-discovery and acceptance, which include the diverse social, familial, and internal obstacles they had to face along the way.

9th September

Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (2018)

Considered by many to be one of the best superhero movies ever made, this animated take on Miles Morale’s transformation into Spider-Man is a jaw-dropping delight. In this funny and thrilling multi-verse adventure, Spidey is joined by other incarnations of the character, including Spider Pig and Spider Gwen, as they team up to take down the villainous Kingpin. A sequel is on the way next year.

14th September

Maggie: Season 1

Young psychic Maggie regularly gets a glimpse into the future of her friends, family, and clients, but when she gets to see her own future after giving a psychic reading to a handsome new client, her life is thrown into disarray. Does her vision come true? Without psychic powers of our own, we can’t really say but you can find out for yourself by tuning into the series when it lands in September.

Star Wars: Andor – Episodes 1, 2 & 3

This prequel to the Star Wars spin-off film Rogue One follows thief-turned-spy Cassian Andor and the series of events that resulted in him joining the Rebel faction that battled against the tyrannical Empire. You will already know the end of his story if you have seen the 2016 film but as “many Bothans died” to inspire this prequel series, you should give it a go regardless, especially if you’re a fan of the franchise.

Rookie Cops: Season 1

The students at the Korean National Police University experience life’s pleasures and traumas as they work hard to achieve both their romantic and career dreams during their journey toward becoming fully-fledged cops.  Kang Daniel stars as honours freshman Wi Seung-hyun who wants to take after his father but whose plans change when he encounters fellow rookie Go Eun-kang (Chae Soo-bin).

27th September

Reasonable Doubt: Season 1

If you’re a fan of legal dramas, you might want to tune into this new series which follows Jax Stewart, a high-powered defence attorney in LA, as she deals with past traumas, motherhood, a failed marriage, and a new murder case that lands on her desk. Emayatzy Corinealdi stars as the fearless attorney who doesn’t exactly play by the rules in her pursuit of justice.

The Old Man: Season 1 – Episodes 1 & 2

Jeff Bridges stars as Dan Chase, a former CIA officer who has been living off the grid in Upstate New York for several decades after absconding from the agency. He is forced to reconcile with his past when his life is threatened by an assassin who has been sent to kill him. This riveting spy thriller is based on a bestselling novel by Thomas Perry and has been critically well-regarded by many, including ourselves.

The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers: Season 2 – Episode 1

The Mighty Ducks are back but if you’re expecting to see Emilio Estevez as Bombay in this second season, you’ll be disappointed as the actor bowed out of the series due to contractual disputes. In his place is Josh Duhamel who stars as a former NHL player who teaches the Ducks a few new tricks at an intense summer hockey institute in California.

Hocus Pocus 2 (2022)

Three young high school students accidentally bring the Sanderson Sisters back to life in this belated comedy sequel, and to remedy their mistake, they try to stop the ravenous witches from creating their usual brand of havoc in Salem on All Hallows Eve. Bette Midler, Kathy Najimy, and Sarah Jessica Parker return, 29 years after they scared (and tickled the funny bones of) audiences in the 1993 original.
