Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown

Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC

We’re going to have to wait a little longer for another fully 3D Prince of Persia game but in the meantime, we have this side-scrolling action adventure game to look forward to. It pays homage to the Prince of Persia games of old but with much better graphics and (hopefully) slicker gameplay.

As usual, the boundaries of space and time are yours to manipulate as you take on the role of a character named Sargon who not only has acrobatic and combat skills but the ability to use various Time Powers too. As we’re expecting this game to be full of fiendish traps, you will probably be called upon to rewind time a lot if you fall victim to the obstacles that await you.

Features:

  • Defeat time-corrupted enemies and mythological creatures
  • Use your Time Powers, combat, and platforming skills to perform deadly combos
  • Use your wits to solve puzzles, find hidden treasures, and complete quests

January 16

Alone in the Dark

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|C, PC

Previous games in the franchise have failed to capitalize on the terrifying original which could be why this upcoming release is (to quote THQ Nordic) a “love letter” to the first game in the series that was released way back in 1992.

Set in the gothic American South, the game puts you in the shoes of either Edward Carnby or Emily Hartwood. During your playthrough, you will explore creepy environments, fight monsters, solve puzzles, and get ever closer to uncovering the true secret of Decerto Manor.

Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) and David Harbour (Stranger Things) lend their voices to the main characters in this psychological horror game.

Features:

  • A re-imagination of Alone in the Dark with current-gen visuals
  • Skin-crawling sound
  • A mesmerizing jazz soundtrack

UPDATE: This game will now be released on 20 March, 2024.

Another Code: Recollection

Platforms: Switch

This new collection includes fully enhanced versions of the two Another Code games originally released on Nintendo DS and Wii. Featuring overhauled visuals and 3D environments to explore, this will please those who loved the original games – Another Code: Two Memories and Another Code: Journey into Lost Memories – and new players to the franchise who want a game that meets modern gaming standards.

Synopsis:

“After receiving a letter from her father who she thought had passed away, 13-year-old Ashley sets off for the solitary Blood Edward Island in search of him. Not long after arriving, she encounters a mysterious ghost named D, and discovers a mansion filled with mind-bending puzzles and mysteries to solve.” (source)

Features:

  • Experience the full story of Ashley Mizuki Robbins across two adventures
  • Optional hints and navigation systems
  • An upgraded version of the previous games, with new voice acting, puzzles, cutscenes, music, and more!

Graven

Platforms: PC

If you’re in the mood for a nostalgic dark fantasy experience, you might be interested in this upcoming first-person puzzle adventure which puts you in the role of a wrongly convicted man of faith. According to the game’s brief synopsis, you must “go forth, alleviate suffering, uncover deceptions, and smash the eldritch perversions encroaching upon reality itself.” To be honest, we don’t quite know what that all means but we’re desperate to dive into this brutal adventure title when it releases next year.

Features:

  • Solve puzzles and scour lore
  • Discover new weapons and upgrade them at blacksmiths and alchemists
  • Wield spells and crystals

January 24

Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth

Platforms: PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC

Two larger-than-life heroes are brought together in this next instalment of the Like a Dragon franchise. Ichiban Kasuga, an unstoppable underdog who’s no stranger to crawling up from rock bottom, and Kazuma Kiryu, a broken man facing down his last days, are brought together by fate (or perhaps something more sinister) to experience an RPG adventure that spans from Japan to Hawaii.

Features:

  • Adapt your party’s skills to the situation at hand
  • Subdue enemies with over-the-top moves
  • A mix of quests and activities to experience at your leisure

January 26

Tekken 8

Platforms: PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC

As per the synopsis, Tekken 8 continues the tragic saga of the Mishima bloodline and its world-shaking father-and-son grudge matches. After defeating his father, Heihachi Mishima, Kazuya continues his conquest for global domination, using the forces of G Corporation to wage war on the world. Jin is forced to face his fate head-on as he is reunited with his long-lost mother and seeks to stop his father Kazuya’s reign of terror.

And so on and so on and so on. All you’ll really care about is which characters are available for you to kick butt with. The roster includes 32 iconic fighters, including Paul Phoenix, King, Marshall Law, Raven, and Nina Williams, each one stunningly portrayed with high-detailed character models. There are 16 battle stages for you to slay your foes in, so now is the time to master your combat moves in readiness for the next Tekken Tournament.

Features:

  • Dynamic and destructible environments
  • Signature moves and combos
  • Character episodes provide insight into each fighter

  1. First-person shooter titles are one of the staples of the video game genre. And due to that, it’s easy to see why there are so many coming out in 2024.
