My Man is Cupid – K-Drama Episode 8 Recap & Review

 Loving Someone

Episode 8 of My Man is Cupid starts with a flashback in 1994. The mysterious man gives a lady a red notebook dubbed “Disease.” We can see that every woman was given a red notebook before going missing. Currently, Sang-hyuk is going through all the murder cases from 1994. According to the trend, the seven sins of a woman means seven women have to die. It, therefore, means there are three more women to die.

Through a flashback, Sang-hyuk finds a lady with a red notebook and demands to know who gave it to her. As she walks home through an alley, an unknown person attacks her, and allegedly, it’s the same person who gave her the red notebook. Right on time, Sang-hyuk intervenes and fights the man off. The man runs and gets knocked down before Sang-hyuk can apprehend him. That’s when Sang-hyuk started his 28th metamorphosis, which made him miss the culprit at the end.

Back to the present time, Jae-hee is asking the chief investigator how Sang-hyuk knows about a 1994 case, yet he’s only 29 years old. Sang-hyuk claims that his father worked on that case to avoid being identified as a fairy. Chief tells Jae-hee to focus on capturing the culprit rather than complaining about Sang-hyuk. Sang-hyuk says he grew up reading about the notebook to understand why the culprit killed those women and why at a particular time.

Sang-hyuk says that the killer had followed Baek-ryeon to the mountain, and his sink wasn’t human. He had put on make-up to conceal his identity. On the other hand, Baek-ryeon is walking home, and Detective Ho-jin follows her, which scares her. Upon getting home, Do-ra also scares her with her make-up. She also starts talking about her past life, saying she was an angel. On the other hand, Jae-hee and his colleagues are cynical about Sang-hyuk. The junior detective even says that Sang-hyuk is a fairy.

Back to Baek-ryeon, she says she was an angel with enormous wings. Apparently, those were not her wings, but they were for Sang-hyuk. When she was about to fall, her friend saved her, and she wandered the world. She later got married to a king, and there was a bloodbath. Then, a prince from a neighbouring country stopped the wedding, making the two countries fight. She believes she’s lonely due to karma for her past life mistakes. Sang-hyuk is keenly keeping an eye on her. He is also wondering why the culprit stopped murdering for 28 years only to resume it recently. Dong-pal has noticed that Sang-hyuk and Baek-ryeon are getting closer each day. However, he reminds Sang-hyuk that he’s about to leave and the vet may fall in love with him.

On the other hand, Baek-ryeon is excited that Sang-hyuk hugged her tightly. Do-ra perceives Sang-hyuk differently and thinks he may not ask Baek-ryeon out after hugging him. Do-ra claims that she dated different men and did other things with them all, but they couldn’t ask her out.

Elsewhere, Baek-ryeon is in the clinic and seems restless since Sang-hyuk has not been picking up her calls or replying to texts. The colleague insinuates that he might be taken or with his wife, making him refuse to accept her calls. But Baek-ryeon believes that he is not taken.

At the police station, Sang-hyuk explains all the red notebook victims in detail: their ages, occupations, and why they were killed. Each seemed to have committed a “sin”, making them face their fate. But after 28 years, there is a variable: a witness still alive. Sang-hyuk and Jae-hee visit the orphanage, and they’re informed that the woman in charge used to treat kids aggressively. It could be a reason why she got killed.

In the meantime, Baek-ryeon is fed up and decides to go to the police station to meet Sang-hyuk. She asks him why he hugged her tightly, and he claims that a motorcycle almost hit her. So he had to hold her. This breaks Baek-ryeon, who thought he loved her. Not following Do-ra’s tips, Baek-ryeon asks him what they are, and he gives an unsatisfactory answer. She chooses Jae-hee to take her home and says she’s excited to make him jealous. But this is untrue, as we can see her glum inside the car. Although Sang-hyuk isn’t replying to her texts, he still follows her to her house to ensure her safety isn’t compromised. Jae-hee tells Baek-ryeon not to give her heart yet since she doesn’t know him too well.

While Sang-hyuk and Baek-ryeon were talking outside, Jae-hee received a parcel. Upon checking it, he finds photos of Sang-hyuk as a cop, and he recalls the orphanage director saying she used to see him frequently in 1993. This leaves Jae-hee wondering who Sang-hyuk is. On the other hand, Baek-ryeon gets a goodnight text from Sang-hyuk, but she doesn’t reply immediately following Do-ra’s advice. However, she cannot stop thinking about him. She says she always thinks about him, even when standing, sitting, or working.

In the meantime, Do-ra gets the part-time job she applied for. Out of the 30 students, 27 have found their soulmates. She’s to tutor the three remaining students, including Dong-gu. Dong-gu says he can date a guy like him if he is a woman. Out of frustration, he says there was hope, dreams, and love in the world he came from. He also says he’s a fairy, and his number is 127. Do-ra is shocked and tells him there’s a woman she will connect him with since she also says she was once an angel.

Elsewhere, Baek-ryeon is drinking alone when Jae-hee joins her. She wonders why he doesn’t get choked, yet all the guys she dated were injured severely. It makes her wonder if they’re destined to be together. They laugh heartily, and Sang-hyuk seems jealous. That night, Jae-hee takes her home. Once awake, Baek-ryeon sends a voicemail to Sang-hyuk, telling him that she’s outside late at night and the culprit may kidnap her. She takes a taxi to Sang-hyuk’s place.

The following day, Do-ra tells her what transpired the previous night. She recalls being dramatic, and Sang-hyuk had to calm her down. She also kissed him and said she was an angel in her past life. Baek-ryeon even recalls seeing the alley where Jeong-ah got kidnapped.

The scene shifts to Jae-hee taking the photos for digital analysis. While waiting for the results, a fighting couple is hurled into the police station. Seeing this, Sang-hyuk gets to the rooftop and shoots the man with a cupid arrow, making him return to his senses. But before he can shoot the second arrow, Jae-hee points a gun, asking him who he is.

As the episode concludes, we can see that after Baek-ryeon pecked Sang-hyuk, he kissed her back. Ddaeng-chil tells Sang-hyuk that he is in love. Even though he can deny this feeling, it’s evident that he can’t hold it for long.

The Episode Review

The anticipated kiss finally happened! Though she initiated a peck, the two sharing a passionate moment was beautiful. Ddaeng-chil is also happy for his friend, though he has been hiding the feelings for too long. However, Baek-ryeon also seems to get along with Jae-hee. Having the two men on her side might affect the work relations at the police station.

It’s also not understandable why Baek-ryeon had to see the night Jeong-ah was kidnapped. In this episode, a series of events happen, and it deviates from finding the culprit. Hopefully, a dive into the past life will help the viewers understand why the culprit returned after 28 years.

  1. I can only assume they didn’t have enough scenes to make 16 eps so they made the cops completely inept. Why aren’t they trying to find out how this man knows the sins of the women? Why isn’t Capt Seo investigating all the employees at the messenger place? Or who had access to their uniforms.
Why is the story meandering all over the place? Solve the murder and get back to the romance! Or focus on the romance and save the murder for later. Or explain some of the loose ends. But do something definitive! I’m tired of episode after episode of crumbs and none of the plots moving forward!
