Puppet on a String

Chapter 6 begins with Kiryu feeding back to Daidojo what he’s found out so far about Akane. When he returns to Ichiban, the word is that the Daidojo are no closer to finding her than the Barracudas are. Instead, Chitose suggests they should try and get Akane to find them… by putting Ichiban in the spotlight.

Kasuga Ichiban is all up for it and after recording a video down by the beach, an incident with a turtle will pave way for a big fight to break out. These guys aren’t particularly tough, so go ahead and use your Perfect Guard on each of the attacks they throw your way and try to group them up. Given you’ll only be playing as Kasuga here, this is the best way forward. Winning this will net you 1400 Experience, 1260 Job Experience and $90.

After hitting your head, you’ll wake up in front of some absolutely bizarre monsters.

Dondoko Island

This is Gachapin and Mukku, and they’re from Dondoko Island. It’s a special Resort but it’s quite run-down. The leader, Matayoshi, explains that it used to be a really decent place with great business but since the Washbucklers have shown up, the place is a complete mess.

To repay the guys for letting him stay, Ichiban decides he’s going to help out and clean up the trash. In order to do that, follow each of the instructions as they show up on the right. This works as a sort of RTS minigame, and there will be multiple different tasks to complete.

After destroying 10 pieces of trash, more trash will show up in the form of Fukuyama and his boys.

Now, equipping the bat, press X (Square) to hit each of the guys. This will soon see them retreat and pave way for the Dondoko Island Ultimate Challenge. The aim here is to create a Five Star resort by completing tasks and raising both the popularity and satisfaction of the place. The popularity measures how many people come through the doors, while the satisfaction works on visitor happiness.

In order to reach a One Star resort. you’ll need to complete the following tasks:

First up, head over to the trees and stone and hit both with X (Square). Once you’ve collected 5 stone and logs, return to Matayoshi. If you get stuck, he’s marked on the minimap on the bottom left side.

Matayoshi will show how to craft various different blueprints, along with the resources needed to bring this to fruition. For now, follow the tutorial for laying down the foundation. You’ll also receive 10,000 Dokobucks too. In order to raise more Dokobucks, the island will allow you a few more mini activities too, including harpooning and bug catching. For now, follow the tasks on the bottom right for creating a 1-star Resort and hitting the Dondoko Dailies.

When the day ends, Day 2 will bring new missions. Kenzo will introduce clearing out contaminated areas but it’ll require Dokubucks and building talent to carry out.

Keep working toward the criteria for making a 1-star resort, making sure that you complete as many of the Dondoko Daily tasks as possible. The big ones will stem from clearing out the Entrance and Great Tree areas, so once you’ve done both of these, and completed the first part of the Dondoko minigame, Dolphine the Dolphin will show up. This will let us return back to Hawaii.

Back To Hawaii

When you’re ready, go straight for Revolve Bar. Again, we’d recommend walking so you can build up your Bond links with your companions. The video has released and it turns out Eiji has reached out with a DM. He wants to meet at the Shopping Center… so off we go!

At the Center, Eiji will be reacquainted with Tomizawa and is certainly wary of what’s happened between them. Still, a bit of catching up helps to flesh out more of this story. Unfortunately, the Chinese Mafia will show and things will soon get hairy. Unfortunately, they too are also after Akane.

Defeat these goons, and given there’s a decent chunk of them, use your usual method of grouping enemies together (or waiting for them to shuffle together) to take them out quicker. Also, you can hit them into the path of the moving tram which will do extra damage if you’re facing toward the street.

Unfortunately, one of the goons will have healing magic and you’ll have to face these Ganzhe goons at full strength toward the end of the fight. Be sure to keep stocked up with healing items and if need be, don’t be afraid to call on your Pound Mates either.

When you finally defeat this lot, you’ll gain 2800 Experience, 2520 Job Experience, +1 Bond and $180.

Before taking to Eiji deeper in the shopping center, it’s actually a good idea to check out the different shops in here – especially the clothing store – to replenish your stocks and also make sure you’ve got the best equipment attached for battle too.

When you’re ready, head on over and speak to Eiji and select “All set!

Unfortunately, it doesn’t take long for Yamai and his goons to show up. He knows exactly who Kiryu is and wants to take him down. After all, what better trophy than showing off his head.

Boss Fight – Yamai

Now it’s time for another boss fight with Yamai. He’ll be flanked by several Syndicate members so focus on these guys first. Just like before, use weapons or moves that will damage more than one enemy in order to whittle down the numbers quicker. Leave Yamai for now and just focus on the other members.

When each of them are down, you’ll need to defeat Yamai. He has some new moves this time around and some of them are pretty brutal too. He uses Feral Lunge, which sees him launch across the area and hit anyone in his path. There’s also Taste Steel too, which is a two-hit melee strike. You can Perfect Guard against both of these and they’re quite well-orchestrated moves too so it should be quite easy to do. Finally, he’ll use a big move called Keelhauler, which will see one of your characters flung across the arena, dealing big damage.

He will generally only attack Kiryu until he’s KOed so it’s a good idea to use this time to try and get in behind him and nail some Back Attacks, which do extra melee damage.

Tag Team moves also work quite well here and using Chitose’s Spill The Tea when your characters are grouped up together is also a good shout. Finally, Yamai is weak to water, so using Scrubdown with Tomizawa is similarly worth doing.

Defeating Yamai will net you 7350 Experience, 6615 Job Experience, +10 Bond and $360.

Regrouping At The Safehouse

After the fight, Yamai will be rather disappointed in your efforts. When he leaves, he’ll hope that Kiryu will come out fighting properly next time.

With multiple gangs after them, Kiryu decides it’s time to hold up at a new Safe House. However, none other than Daidojo happen to be there, fronted by Kihei Hanawa. In exchange for using this place, Hanawa wants to know everything they do about Akane.

Ichiban explains about the video’s purpose which not only serves to draw attention to them, but also see who else may be involved in the disappearance of his mother.

Eiji believes the owner of the Nirvana Hotel may hold some clues here. Wong Tou. He’s held up tight in the hotel and it’s also believed that there’s a secret casino for Hawaii’s elite deep within where Wong Tou serves his customers directly. The Ganzhe are not in great shape right now but in order to prove themselves, they’re going to need to prove themselves at “minor casinos” first. Only, they’re not going to be easy to find.

Tomi has been part of this world for a while and could hole the key here, so he suggests they go to the Sushi Place on Sakura Street.

Thankfully that’s not actually too far from our current location so head on over and the chef will lead us on the right track… or not. He’s sold them out and unfortunately the gangs have got there first.

Fight through the goons and grab 1750 Experience, 1575 Job Experience, +1 Bond and $112.50 in doing so.

The Casino

With the goons down, the chef will finally reveal all. He’ll explain that the casinos are always changing spots and there’s usually two or three running at a time. One that he’s familiar with is the Black Hibiscus. With a password in hand, the casino is located on the other side of town. You can either walk or get a taxi over to Chinatown, it’s completely your choice on this one!

Once you arrive, the clock will chime and the place will immediately turn into a casino. With the guys losing constantly, Ichiban decides they need to cheat to get ahead. On the options, select “Talk to Kiryu“. He’s found a way in and the key is the Blackjack dealer. Kiryu is keeping tabs on him and is going to help relay a message through each of the guys to avoid suspicion and win.

When the manager shows up, Ichiban will use this opportunity to twist his hand and gain entry to Nirvana. When this is a bust, Chitose steps up and explains her family lineage. This is enough to get them one step closer to Wong Tou.

For now, head on back to the safehouse and speak to Hanawa. Now, we’re nearing a dungeon and a point of no return so it’s a good idea to make sure your equipment is fully stocked up and that you’re at least Level 24.

When you’ve done all of this, speak to Hanawa and select “I’m ready“.

With Ichiban holding back for now, the others head on up to the casino and marvel at the crazy sights. There’s nobody here making a big show of it, and Kiryu isn’t exactly subtle with his glasses, but Chitose has been on the prowl. And just like that, Wong Tou shows up. The Ganzhe commander has certainly heard of Chitose… and the glasses aren’t fooling anyone.

With the cover blown, Ichiban heads up and in Wong Tou’s office, a big fight naturally breaks out.

Wong Tou

Boss Fight – Wong Tou

Wong Tou is a tough foe and he has some big moves too. There are only four grunts alongside him so as usual, make sure you focus on them first.

Wong Tou uses Venom Slicer, which does a moderate amount of damage but also inflicts Poison so be careful of this. He also sports a rather nasty stabbing move called Perforate, which will do a good chunk of damage. Unfortunately, one of his more deadly moves comes in the form of Effortless Elegance, which will raise Wong Tou’s Evasion in a massive way.

Now, Wong Tou is weak to Ranged attacks (typified by the pistol icon in the menu) so be sure to use this to your advantage. Tomi’s Toolbox Toppler and Lug Launcher are great ideas to use.

When Wong Tou gets down to 50% health, a few QTEs will show before you hit Phase 2. Unfortunately, Wong Tou will use Chi Cleanser here, which will slowly increase his HP recovery. You need to be quick when he uses this and pummel the guy with hard-hitting moves. That’s because Wong Tou will also use a move called Hornet’s Hive, where he’ll swing wildly with a knife and hit everyone around him.

If you have any throwing items like Grenades or Flashbangs, now is a fantastic time to use them. Given Wong Tou is weak to ranged weapons, they’ll do massive damage and speed up the fight considerably.

When Wong Tou is finally defeated, you’ll gain 6300 Experience, 5670 Job Experience, +10 Bond and $292.50.

After the fight, Wong Tou will admit that he’s working for the Overseer; the man in charge of the whole of Hawaii and the one pulling the strings. Apparently Akane made off with his fortune, explaining why all the gangs are after her. However, one of the men here happens to be a spy and he jumps out the window, plummeting to the ground below – and to his death.

This appears to be the signal he initially spoke of prior to killing himself, and with Wong Tou scared and worried that his son may be in danger, it’s time to head to the Penthouse. On the way though, be sure to speak to the server in the casino to stock up on any food items if you’re running low.

When you proceed toward the elevators, another cutscene will trigger. Unfortunately, you’re too late and Wong Tou’s son has been taken. Fight through the Overseer’s goons that are at the elevator, where you’ll gain 2100 Experience, 1890 Job Experience, +1 Bond and $135.

With Wong Tou shocked and unsure which way to turn – or who to trust – it’s time to go back to the Safehouse after leaving the Hotel. Unfortunately, word has spread that the employee was thrown out the window… and naturally goons show up to fight as well.

Fight off more of these guys that show up, and try to lead them into the road if you can. If any cars pass, they’ll do extra damage to any of the goons standing there. Also try to group them all up as usual, while hitting them with your best attacks. Defeating them all will net you 2520 Experience, 2268 Job Experience, +1 Bond and $157.50.

After the fight, Wong Tou will end up stabbed in the aftermath and begin bleeding out.

After rushing out into the wilderness, Wong Tou will start bleeding out and explain that the Overseer’s men are super loyal to him. He also has spies everywhere all over the island. But who is the Overseer? Well, it’s Bryce. The Palekana sage!
