Yamai (Boss Fight)

Paradise, Hawaiian Style

Seeing Sawashiro here, given he’s the former Captain of the Arakawa Family, is certainly a shocking turn of events. He’s clearly not in prison and, as it turns out, he also didn’t kill Chairman Hoshino 4 years back either. He showed up to find the Chairman had already been slain, a set-up by the “young master” Ryo Aoki who framed him to make it seem like Sawashiro was to blame. Sawashiro was already on his way to kill the guy to be fair, so it’s not like he made a pointless trip.

Sawashiro was sentenced to life behind bars, but Ebina managed to pull some strings and get him out of jail.

Sawashiro brought him here because he has a favour to ask. With a passport in hand, head along the streets and be sure to stock up on healing items at the shop too if you don’t have many in your inventory.

When you finally arrive to see Sawashiro, he’ll admit he’s sending you over to Hawaii. But why? Well, it turns out that’s where his mother, Akane-san, is located.

It turns out Ichiban is actually the original Boss’s son. He was swapped at birth, meaning that he should have been raised to run the Arakawa family. His mum was believed to have been killed after she was allegedly shipping off to the Philippines and hunted down by the family. Only, she’s very much alive and wants to meet Ichiban.

Sawashiro initially intended to head over and kill her but he couldn’t do it. Instead, he lied and said that she was dead, which subsequently called off the search for her. Sawashiro kept in contact with Akane though to keep her under control and make sure she didn’t show up in Japan again. And now that the boss is dead, he’s finally free.

After the meeting, head over to Survive. You can choose to get a Taxi if you wish for 500 yen, but if you’re looking to complete everything in the game, we’d recommend walking (for the Walkathon accomplishment) and for extra XP by beating goons along the way.

When you finally arrive, chat at Survive, and when you’re done, take a cab over to Arakawa’s Grave.

After paying your respects, you’ll be back at the apartment again and Nancy will get your attention. Nancy is, of course, the large lobster who served as a Summon for us in Like A Dragon. You’ll get a choice here whether to take Nancy with you to Hawaii or not, but of course you absolutely should pick the option to let her go with you!

When you head outside, beat up the Degenerate who attacks and a strange man will show up. It’s the Professor Morkiasa! Remember him from Like A Dragon? He wanted us to “collect ’em all” and research all the other goons in town. He’s back again with another Pokedex… ugh, Sujidex. For those who didn’t play Like A Dragon, the Sujidex basically records every variation of goon you come across and with Hawaii on the horizon, there’s a Sujimon tournament there that may be of interest.

Arriving At Hawaii

When you’re ready, head over to the nearest Taxi and interact with it to trigger another cutscene. Adachi and Nanba will leave your party, and you’ll be all alone on your way to Hawaii.

On the way off the plane, there will be an interesting encounter with a kid in a wheelchair (bringing up old memories of the past, right?) and then it’s out of the airport we go. Now, all of Kasuga’s money has been converted to US Dollars, and any cash gained will be transferred into this currency. For every 100 yen, it’ll work out to 1 dollar.

Find a taxi with a Japanese driver and interact with a variety of different taxis before you find one (usually the third) that does speak Japanese. The driver looks a bit shady but he’ll take you to the address all the same. Unfortunately, it’ll end with a gun to your face.

This is a robbery, and he wants the gun and wallet. Ichiban is undeterred and it’ll turn into fighting this Roughneck Taxi Driver. It’s not a particularly tough fight, but be sure to use your big attacks to deal a decent chunk of damage.

Unfortunately, Ichiban is caught and with the taxi driver eating the envelope sporting Akane’s address, Ichiban is left in an uncompromising position when cops show up. The taxi driver makes it seem like Ichiban is the thief and crook here and he’s almost arrested… until our wheelchair dude shows up just in the nick of time! He’s recorded the whole thing, prompting the driver to flee. He also reveals that his name is Eiji Mitamura.

With no address, Eiji thankfully has the address on his camera but he needs to head to his hotel first.

After helping Eiji out to try some Hawaiian food, you’ll find yourself at Aloha Beach. Kasuga will have a good time with Eiji, who will confirm that he’s a Freelancer. He’s heard of the Tatara Channel but thankfully he doesn’t believe a word she’s said about Ichiban.

A lady on the beach is in trouble and she confirms that her scarf has been blown into the ocean. Ichiban, without even thinking about it, rips off his suit and dives into the water.

In order to retrieve the scarf, you’ll need to examine each of the different circled areas. Keep swimming around each of them and eventually you’ll find the scarf. After playing the good Samaritan, and trying out coconuts too, it’s onto the shops.

Unfortunately, there’s a bunch of guys here trying to harass a young woman, so Ichiban jumps in to stop them. While fighting the goons, Eiji will offer support, which will help raise your stats temporarily to get rid of the goons.

With this done, head over to the local café for a bite to eat. When you arrive, Morning Joe’s will be closed but grab the sandwich and give it to Eiji. Unfortunately things are about to get a whole lot more unpleasant.

In another cutscene, we’ll meet Yutaka Yamai, a guy who happens to be in-league with the crooked taxi driver. It turns out Hawaii has gangs too and Ichiban has cost them a taxi meaning there needs to be retribution. After striking down the driver, Yamai will turn his attention to Ichiban and Eiji. Thankfully, Ichiban has his bat, so it’s time to fight.

Bide your time just like before and try to hit multiple syndicate members in one fell swoop. The goons will shuffle around the room periodically so it’s a good opportunity to grab weapons and strike, with Eiji playing Support once again. With the members down, Kasuga will have to face off against Yutaka Yamai

Boss Fight – Yamai

Boss Fight – Yamai

Yamai has some brutal melee strikes, so it’s a good idea to try and time your Perfect Guards to block against the worst of this. His move, Taste Steel, is one such example. He’ll use this a lot, so try to play conservatively and make sure you stock up with HP boosters. Eiji will also jump in and help too, raising your stats over time to make this fight a bit easier.

Counter up with a hard-hitting melee strike when you’re in good standing with your HP and be patient with your enemy.

With Yamai’s health down low, a cutscene will trigger and you’ll just need to hit once to knock him out completely.

Rewards: 140 Exp, 130 Job Experience, 3x Lava Fragments, 2x Ice Fragments, 2x Safe Key, $60.

With Yamai down, Eiji and Ichiban race off to escape…but Yamai has not been fully defeated yet. However, Eiji will depart after thanking you for a good time and with the address in hand, Ichiban heads off to meet his mum.

All but ready to give up when there’s nobody home, a voice from behind the door shocks Ichiban as it would appear that his mum may actually be home after all…
