Chapter 1:  Doin’ the Best I Can

Welcome to Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth! The latest Yakuza game is an epic 50+ hour romp, with a rip-roaring story and some great gameplay along the way. We begin, however, with a brief cutscene of a man, in the middle of the night, with murder and betrayal on the cards. It’s an ominous way to start the game.

This opener paves way for us meeting up with Ichiban Kasuga. It’s the year 2022 and he’s a Hello Work Contractor. This is a very different setting for our character. A man called Sasaki shows up and after some back and forth, he points out that Ichiban is their savior and tries to get him to drop his facade… but he does not.

The Sasaki Encounter

In the end, Ichiban tells him to leave. When Sasaki refuses, Ichiban’s demeanour changes and he’s got that fire in his eyes again. Sasaki leaves and the “Savior of Yokohama” is praised by his work colleagues.

Now we finally get to take control of Ichiban. From your start position, head down the street and take a left, toward the restaurant to get some food. On your way, be sure to open the briefcases you’ll see by the side of the road, which include 1x Mineral Water, 1x Salmon Onigiri and 1x Bronze Plate. Look out for more of these briefcases throughout your adventure, as there are loads dotted around the environment. These will help you out with easy food items or extra goodies you can sell at shops. Oh, and there’s also 1x Tuna Onigiri in the parking lot too!

Just opposite your destination, make sure you pick up the briefcase here as it holds 1x Grenade (pictured below).

Interact with the door and Sasaki will show back up. This Five Year Ex-Yakuza Clause is really doing a number on the guy and he’s desperate for a break, even offering 50k to buy him out too. He’s struggling to get a job, he can’t get a place to stay and he’s out of prospects.

This first fight that ensues with Sasaki will open up the door for the familiar Turn-Based fighting from Like A Dragon. If you played that game, it should be like fitting on an old boot here but if you’ve forgotten, there is a tutorial to help you out. Defeating Sasaki will net you 55x Experience Points, 50x Job Experience and 1x Salmon Onigiri.

When the notes fall in the stinking water behind Sasaki during the cutscene after, Ichiban will dive in like the hero he is and fetch them back, handing them over to Sasaki. This gesture of good will opens the door for what’s really happening here.

Ichiban doesn’t appreciate Sasaki showing up and shoving money in his face but he promises to try and help the guy turn a corner and go straight. And this is helped along by Sasaki dropping to his knees and begging for help.

Sasaki’s First Day At Work

With a new day comes, there’s a really neat bit of dialogue that allows us to either Reminisce on old times or Head to work. If you choose the latter, you’ll continue on with Infinite Wealth. However, if you choose the former, we’ll be in recap territory, and learn all about Ichiban’s journey up to this point.

When you’re done, head outside and across to Hello Work. When you do, go and speak to Hamako, who happens to be down on the ground. She’s been on an all-night bender and needs some help. Now, we get a dialogue choice. You can either tell her to “ease up onthe drinks” or “Lend her a shoulder“. If you chose the latter, it’ll increase your Kindness. The former will increase your Toughness.

Either way, Hamako will just get up and wander off, allowing us to head into Hello Work. Go all the way to the back and enter the cubicle.

When a new day begins, Sasaki shows up looking new and improved, having written out everything about his past with the Yakuza just like Ichiban asked. And Ichiban has just the mission for him… shoplifting? With the shoplifting done, Sasaki reports back to a very familiar figure. Adachi!

Sasaki feeds back everything he’s found out, including plenty of blind spots in these shops. Well, this is just the ticket for Adachi, who specializes in this field, consulting with companies to tighten up their security. With Adachi, this was just a test to help out.

When Ichiban shows up, Sasaki now has the opportunity to properly learn and work with Adachi. This is Ichiban’s way of continuing Masumi Arakawa’s wishes. In fact, Kasuga Ichiban is dead-set on trying to help the 30,000 Yakuza that have been spat out after the Clans have dissolved.

When you gain control of Ichiban again, head down the street toward Survive. On the way, you’ll gave a fight with Street Thugs, which will help give you the low-down on using Weapons and extra fighting techniques in battle.

It’s an easy fight in truth, and it’ll net you 18x Experience, 18x Job Experience, 1x Lettuce Sandwich and 900 Yen.

Kasuga Ichiban’s Date

After this head on over to Survive, being sure to pick up any items or briefcases on the way. If you played Like A Dragon, the Map here should look very similiar. However, head on up to the Bar Distric. On the way, be sure to stop by at the Clothing Store and grab the items inside, the Knitted Cap and the Pack Insoles which will both help improve your stats.

When you enter Survive, you’ll be reacquainted with some familiar faces. Nanba is now a Medical Equipment Inspector and Saeko is the Co-owner of Club Silky Queen. Zhao and Joongi couldn’t make it though as they’re still wrapped up in underworld affairs.

However, the conversation then moves to more important things… dating. Ichiban will be rather shy but Adachi and Nanba encourage him to make a move with Saeko. Eventually it’ll all lead to Sa-chan saying yes to hanging out after initially running away. Woohoo!

Only… there’s a problem. Kasuga Ichiban is not very date savvy. Thankfully, our choices here will determine Ichiban’s personality and, subsequently, how his character develops. No pressure!

When you make these choices, each will have an impact on your personality. Below, we’ve listed the choices you can make and the outcome of each.

Waiting for Saeko

  • Sit and act natural = Style +30
  • Stand and pose = Passion +30

Planning The Date

  • Go for the usual beef bowl! = Confidence +30
  • Be brave and eat spice level 100 curry = Passion +30

What To Wear

  • Go for the organic look = Intellect +30
  • Go for some razzle dazzle = Style +30

The date outcome is identical regardless of what you choose here, but this is a great opportunity to level up those key stats you want to bulk out, or go for a natural playthrough and choose however you’d respond in a real-life date. The choice is up to you!

Once you’ve chosen your first set of options, sleep at your apartment and then head on over to meet Saeko. During the date, you’ll have more options to choose. These are as follows:

How Should You Respond

  • Be like Nanba and tell her how you feel = Charisma +30
  • Be like Adachi and play it cool = Passion +30

What Things Should You Talk About

  • Talk about Nanba = Charisma +30
  • Talk about Adachi = Kindness +30

Responding To Embarrassment

  • Be like Nanba and just move on = Charisma +30
  • Be like Adachi and cover for her = Confidence +30

Acting Like Nanba’s Boyfriend

  • A guy like Nanba: real down-to-earth = Kindness +30
  • A guy like Adachi: cool and stylish = Intellect +30

At the end of this rather lengthy encounter, you’ll have to face off against a bunch of Threatening Men. You can choose to Auto-battle if you’d like, but just like in Like A Dragon, you’ll be able to control both Saeko and Ichiba for this fight.

Defeating these guys will net you 18x Experience, 18x Job Experience, 1x Handmade Meat Bun and 900 Yen.

The date will eventually turn out to be great, and Kasuga Ichiban will actually outright ask if Saeko wants to marry him. Instead, Saeko will dodge the question, tell him she’s had fun and decide to go home.

Naturally, Nando and Adachi are not particularly happy with Ichiban’s hastiness. When you gain control of Ichiban again, head down to apologize to Sa-chan.

When you show up, Sa-chan will decide that they should just be friends, given it’ll get in the way of their work.

1 Year Later

Fast forward a year and things at Hello Work are very different from before. Ichiban’s contract has been terminated. The City Hall has denied his renewal and things don’t look good. Before you leave, interact with each of your co-workers and say goodbye. There’s a few different people to speak to here, including a colleague at the whiteboard, behind the counter and by the front door.

Once all of this is done, Kasuga’s job will change to Freelancer. With everything different now, it’s time to head home and contact Adachi.

On the way, you’ll be faced with some thugs who will blackmail you. However, they’ll also show off an intriguing online channel called Tatara Hisoka. She’s got it out for Ichiban and unfortunately, she has all this footage of Sasaki and has distorted it and made it seem like Ichiban is stealing gear and reselling it for a profit. This also explains why Hello Work have let him go.

When you gain control of Ichiban, you’ll need to take out the Men’s Vice Journalist. The group will begin in close proximity so make use of your special skills to take the Digital Con Artists out first. Leave Asakura for last, making sure all the goons are gone first before attacking him.

Be sure to heal up when you get low on HP and keep using your special moves. Eventually, he’ll go down and net you 85x Experience , 80x Job Experience, 2100 Yen and 1x Toughness Light.

When the fight is over, Adachi will ring and things aren’t looking good. Even worse, Tatara is apparently a really well-known and respected Vlogger online and unfortunately, the world is lapping up everything there about Kasuga Ichiban and co.

In the morning, head back to Hello Work, being sure to pick up any briefcases on the way. When you arrive, a Gangster will show up, distraught that Ichiban losing his job has caused his dream to go up in smoke. When the Male Worker from before appears, Ichiban requests a sign be put up to confirm he’s not there.

After the cutscene, head over to Sasaki’s Apartment, being sure to tuck in to the alleyway next to the grey truck. The door is on the right.

Preparing For The Seiryu Clan

Nanba and Adachi show up at the apartment and confirm the Seiryu Clan has been acting strangely. They’re boosting their numbers and it’s time fo the trio to get the party back together and investigate this one.

On the way out the door, a hilarious cutscene will then pave way for Kasuga’s job being changed from Freelancer to Hero.

Defeat the goons that show up, and this is a great opportunity to get accustomed to the special moves both Nanba and Adachi have. Their skills are great, especially Nanba who can hit a lot of enemies in close proximity. If anyone is grouped up, make sure you use his Pyro Belch for bonus damage.

Defeating these goons will net you 18x Experience, 18x Job Experience, 1x Revival Bonus and 900 Yen.

Before you head to the Seiryu Clan, head into the store and buy some new equipment to kit out your characters. We’ll be tackling a big dungeon soon so it’s a great opportunity to make sure you have everything in check.

Once you’ve doe this, head on over to the Seiryu Clan entrance. However, you won’t be let in so instead, go over to the convenience store and grab a bottle of sake. You only need one, and it’s at the top of the list so it should be easy to grab.

Substory 1 – Radio Active

On the way back, a Substory will trigger automatically, with an Announcer harassed by some men. These guys are pretty easy to defeat so go ahead and beat them down. With the group scattered, Risa Unai will thank you and encourage you to listen to her radio show. As a reward, a Playlist app will be installed on smartphone. It’s not a particularly different substory, but it does give you a flavour for the type of sub-quests you’ll have to contend with in this game.

Walk forward a little and speak to the Chief. In doing so, this will pave way for a rather lengthy sequence that we can’t back out from for a while. Given there aren’t any side activities here right now, let’s crack on.

The Chief will show a secret entrance into the Seiryu Clan… but they need to go through the sewers. Uh oh.

The Seiryu Clan Break-In

The Sewers

From your starting position at the sewer, head up the stairs and make sure you grab many of the random briefcases and items dotted around. One in particular you want to pay attention to is at the top of the ladder in the corner of the room. Climb to the top and open the briefcase to collect 1x Health Ring.

This is especially useful to equip, and as you move through the dungeon, be wary of the various goons here. Pyro Belch works really well against the Peusdotrash, Street Scrapper and Hangdog enemies!

Also make note of any enemies nearby to large canisters, as these can be used as weapons to do a good chunk of damage. When you reach the end of the Sewers, be sure to heal up and save at the phone box and cooler, respectively.

The Headquarters

After completing the Sewer section, you’ll find yourself in the Seiryu Clan courtyard. Here, there will be a series of fights all the way through, so be sure to make use of any weapons nearby to try and speed up the various fights.

As you move into the interior rooms, a lot more Clan members will show up to fight. Here, it’s a great idea to start using some of your Special Moves, and in particular anything that will hit multiple foes at once. You want to try and group up these enemies or attack any in your line of attack as a way of speeding these fights up and minimizing how much damage you take. You can hold off from attacking right away too as the members will move around the room, thankfully getting in the right spot for you to launch these devastating attacks.

The Dungeon itself is linear so there’s very little chance of you getting lost here and eventually you’ll come up against a mini-boss in Kuwaki.

This guy has a good deal of healthy and this serves as a tutorial fight of sorts, learning how to break Guards and maximizing your skills. Nanba’s Pyro Belch is highly effective here, while Adachi’s Roll can help break guards. As for Ichiban, use him for any weapon attacks or high-damage dealing melee strikes.

Partway through the fight there will be a QTE to complete, followed by a whole bunch of new enemies to show up.

Use the same tactics as before, being sure to try and target multiple enemies. Eventually they’ll all be defeated and net you 140x Experience, 130x Job Experience, 1x Safe Key and 4200 Yen.

After the fight, head through the doorway and you’ll be faced with Masataka Ebina, the Seiryu Clan Captain.

After some back and forth, you’ll be driven down to the docks with the captain. There’s a warehouse there that they bought and they gather “trash” from around the globe. Well, “trash” is basically anything people can’t afford anymore, like illicit money transfer records and the like. So like a giant safety deposit box.

The Yakuza are struggling to adjust with the Five Year clause and as many as 10,000 guys and gals are seeking a way back into this world – and have found themselves with the Seiryu Clan. The Clan has been expanding rapidly and the other smaller clans are also on the verge of collapsing too. Sasaki shows up and reinforces Ebina’s words, so it seems like things are all good.

On the way out, Ebina confirms there’s someone who wants to see Ichiban. And out of the shadows, as the camera pans up, a familiar face appears… it’s Captain Sawashiro!
