The Explosion Girl and The Forest Irregularity

Episode 11 of Konosuba: An Explosion On This Wonderful World begins with Yunyun and Megumin completing some jobs. Megumin tells Yunyun they should focus on different missions that’ll raise their levels significantly. They take a rabbit mission. It doesn’t bode well for them, resulting in Megumin using explosion magic to defeat the colony chasing her and Yunyun.

Host wakes Megumin and Yunyun up from their battle and tries introducing himself to them. However, Yunyun and Megumin flee out of fear and meet with the Adventurer Guild’s receptionist to inform her about Host and his goal. The receptionist believes Host wants the Rookie Slayer. Megumin and Yunyun contemplate their encounter with Host, and Megumin vows to return to the woods to defeat him.

Yunyun’s surprised by everyone’s enthusiasm at the Adventurer’s Guild the following day. Megumin says everyone’s excited to participate in the demon hunt because of its reward and she hopes to impress the other groups during the hunt.

After everyone performs heroically against smaller enemies, they witness the cursed sword adventurer (Mitsurugi) getting wheeled away. They retreat back to the guild to inform the receptionist about their failure. Everyone fears if Mitsurugi couldn’t beat the creature, they can’t. The receptionist tells everyone about an arch-priest who can defeat the creature and shares her description with the adventurers. They all flee to find this priest while Yunyun plans to stay behind at the guild.

During Megumin’s hunt for the arch-priest, she overhears a conversation between a pair and one of the adventurers. Although one seems to fit the arch priest’s description, Megumin doesn’t believe she’s the one. Megumin returns to the room and reunites with Cecily. Cecily explains Father Zesta heard Aqua’s voice emanating from Axel and sent Cecily to visit the town to investigate. Cecily offers Megumin a ton of money if she helps her with her issues.

They visit the Eris Church to get answers about the arch-priest, but Cecily makes things awkward, so they flee. After things don’t work out with Cecily, Megumin heads to the Adventurer’s Guild and spots Yunyun. Suddenly, a group of adventurers led by Rex offer Yunyun and Megumin an opportunity to work with his group. After helping to put a monster to sleep, Rex offers Yunyun a spot on his team. Host arrives and knocks Rex and his party away because he thinks they have Lady Wolbach in the cage.

Host learns it’s the Rookie Slayer and not Chomusuke. He turns to Megumin and Yunyun and asks why he senses Chomusuke’s scent on them. Megumin asks why he’s interested in Chomusuke, but Host doesn’t give her a solid answer. He promises not to harm them or the town if they hand Chomsuke over. The episode concludes with Megumin and Yunynun returning to Axel with Rex’s group in the cage.

The Episode Review

Host makes his triumphant return to the story and seemingly shares the same goal as Arnes. However, it appears Megumin and Yunyun won’t be able to “explode” their way out of this one. Although fans of the mainline series know Megumin will find a way to prevent Chomusuke from falling into his clutches, it’ll be interesting to see if they manage to get Aqua’s help with vanquishing Host.

It’s possible Aqua can accidentally stumble upon Host and Megumin’s group during their Chomusuke exchange and defeat Host with her powers. It’d be a hilarious way to take Host out but would fit within the context of the mainline series. While the previous episode gave us some cameos of Aqua, Darkness, and Kazuma, this one gives fans small glimpses of Mitsurugi and Wiz.

Although their roles were minor in this chapter, many fans will find it fascinating that they appeared this early in the Konosuba story. Overall, this was a decent chapter of Konosuba: An Explosion On This Wonderful World. It had some funny moments and it tries its best to build tension surrounding our heroes’ safety concerning Host and his desire for Chomusuke. With one episode left, I’m unsure if it’ll be able to cover content people want to see such as Megumin meeting her role model. We’ll have to see how it all unfolds.
