Hide – K-drama Episode 9 Recap & Review

The Father-Daughter Duo

Episode 9 of Hide begins with a flashback of Moon-young’s father, Na Seok-jin meeting with the real Heo Jae-pil. They get drunk and head to a cliff. Jae-pil blames him for his and his daughter’s misfortune and tries to push Mr. Na. However, Jae-pil slips and falls off the cliff. Mr. Na rushes home and tells Moon-young to tell the cops that he has gone missing near the cliff. Once the cops find Jae-pil’s body, Moon-young lies that the body is her father’s.

At present, Mr. Na explains that he didn’t kill the real Jae-pil and he always gives a dose when Chairman Choi hyperventilates. But this time, he didn’t know it would kill him. Yeo-jin arrives and reveals her story – Jae-pil was a single father. A young Yeon-joo kept waiting for him only to track Heo Jae-pil in 2018 and realise that her father is dead and Mr. Na has stolen his identity. At present, she tells Moon-young to get Mr. Na acquitted.

At the police station, Baek calls Jin-woo and Sung-jae as witnesses of Chairman Choi’s death. Sung-jae provokes Jin-woo that he would have killed and stolen his identity had he not introduced him to the innocent Hwang Tae-soo. A furious Jin-woo punches him before the cops separate them. Back to Choi’s case, Sung-jae finds it fishy and visits “Jae-pil” in prison. He tells Jae-pil to claim that Yeon-joo forced him but the latter simply smiles. Of course, Yeon-joo finds out about the visit.

Moon-young and Bom head home to find Sung-jae with a photo of Moon-young with Mr. Na. Bom runs off which angers him and he lashes out at Moon-young as he feels she lied to him about her father’s death. He then goes home and tells his father who also feels wronged as they had bent over backwards to help Moon-young escape the debt her father left behind.

Having deceived so many people, an ashamed Moon-young asks her father why he did what he did. A flashback shows Mr. Na keeping track of Moon-young’s achievements from afar.

Shin-hwa, Baek, Jin-woo and Moon-young meet to plan their next course of action. Moon-young tells them about her father and they are shocked. They think Yeon-joo is taking revenge because she thinks Mr. Na killed her father. While Shin-hwa and Baek hope she does the right thing, Jin-woo tells her to do what she wants.

Yeon-joo meets with Sung-jae who realises that she approached and used him to get to Moon-young. She tells him to testify that Mr. Na killed Chairman Choi and she will give Sung-jae the power of attorney to withdraw the 80 billion.

Sung-jae meets with Moon-young and Bom to take down Yeon-joo. They refuse to listen with Moon-young wondering if he is even ashamed of being a bad parent. He throws an UNO reverse by pointing out that she is the same as she is an accomplice to her father’s identity theft. She ignores him and he instantly calls his mother to prepare to take Bom.

Meanwhile, Yeon-joo fakes Choi’s prescription making Jae-pil the handler while also making sure the rest of the medicines at the crime scene are also poisoned. Shin-hwa and Moon-young see that Jae-pil’s criminal record was clean before 2018. Elsewhere, Baek learns that Yeon-joo had asked for “Na Seok-jin’s” case which shows he fell and drowned.

Moon-young confronts her father who comes clean – after Jae-pil fell, he went down to check on him and saw him dying. He put his belongings in Jae-pil’s pockets and waited till he died. MY is upset.

An upset Moon-young kneels and apologises in front of Yeon-joo’s place but she ignores her. She visits her father’s grave and says she will get his name back.

At the trial, Moon-young confesses to everything including Mr. Na stealing Jae-pil’s identity. A flashback shows Moon-young telling her father that Yeon-joo would play with them before revealing them to be murderers. So, their accepting the charges is their punishment for doing the wrong thing in the first place. At the end of Hide Episode 9, Yeon-joo is furious as Moon-young ruins her plan and she screams at her.

The Episode Review

After every episode, we wonder how they are going to top their latest plot twist. And they somehow not only do it but set a new level of shocking reveals. Well, if you thought the previous weekend was wild, Hide Episode 9 has daddy reveals, identity theft, voluntary manslaughter and 5-year-old revenge plans.

Well, at least Yeon-joo’s long-term game finally makes sense. It was never about Sung-jae stealing from Geumshin or his affair with her. He just happens to be absolute trash which allowed Yeon-joo to use him as ammunition to hit Moon-young right where it hurt. Though, we wonder how much worse will she get now that Moon-young has taken away Yeon-joo’s satisfaction of getting her vengeance.
