Grimsburg – Season 1 Episode 11 “And the Winner is…Murder!” Recap & Review

And the Winner is…Murder!

In Episode 10 of Grimsburg Season 1, Marvin tries his best to reconcile his relationship with Harm. Although the two have made a lot of progress, she has restricted him to the house’s basement.

Stan is being bullied at school by the Stable Boys due to the state of his parents’ marriage. He desperately wants them to get back together but struggles to find a way. In the backdrop of this family melodrama, a serial killer has surfaced. She is murdering all the previous winners of the Grimsburg’s Talent Show and the previous winner is next on the roster.

Kang suggests that Marvin spend more time with Harm outside of work, prompting him to join her in competing for a spot as the show’s judge. This will also allow him to remain close to the murderer’s next move. Harm isn’t thrilled with the proposition, though. She points out how crime follows wherever Marvin goes.

However, Marvin strikes gold when the killer herself attacks him while the station is on the lookout. Flute does not believe a woman would kill and tries to avoid the subject while taking her to get processed.

At the same time, Harm reminds him that he is late for the show. To keep his word and prove he has changed, Marvin arrives at the spot with the killer in chains. It doesn’t take her long to get free and join the bench as the third judge. The show starts as Stan arrives at the theatre looking to make a mark. He gets to the stage and starts performing quite badly. However, when another singer enters the fray, the duet wins the crowd over and Stan is declared as the winner.

Harm is crass with Flute when she discovers that the killer is targeting winners of the talent show. When she asks him to switch on his “Crime Mind,” Flute comes up short on account of having taken Kang’s “Detective Off” tablet earlier. Anna, the killer, takes Stan into the forest under a false pretence to kill him. He doesn’t see anything wrong with her behaviour. His parents follow his trail as the situation gets more desperate.

Flute finds enough evidence to lead the duo to the City Hall. Right before she can kill Stan, Flute flaunts the rule book for the show, saying that Stan did not win since he is related to the judges. They declare Anna as the winner. The realisation suddenly dawns upon her and she kills all the winners. She tries to commit suicide by jumping but lands straight on a trash truck. She is relieved but it is short-lived as she is brutally compressed to death by the machine.

The events seem to have brought the family closer as Harm allows Flute to visit the upstairs area of the house…occasionally.

The Episode Review

Another Grimsburg episode that lives up to the billing. I will concede that the show is taking the right path but the arc has suddenly changed with a very weak foundation. The lineage of this creative diversion is suspicious and raises questions about the intentions of the makers.

However, if we consider each episode till now, the show is getting better and better with an upward trajectory. All episodes about the family dysfunction have been quite enjoyable given how closely they shape the characters.

Stan is certainly someone for whom our attitude has changed. His portrayal is at a mature level in Episode 11 but it took a lot of work. The station remained off the case on this one but there was plenty to keep us entertained. Some bold punchlines and controversial jabs nullify the adverse impact of Anna’s character, whose bedrock of stereotypes is difficult to ignore.
