Girls5eva – Season 3 Episode 3 “Clarksville” Recap & Review

Clarksville

Episode 3 of Girls5eva begins with the girls traveling to Clarksville. On the way, Wickie remembers how she bought her mother a house with the money she made after her fragrance company was purchased by another company. The girls are worried about needing a place to stay, but since Wickie used all their money to put a deposit on their big show six months away, they have no money for a hotel.

Dawn suggests doing some mini-shows to keep themselves afloat for the time being. However, Dawn, Gloria, and Summer believe they should do something to gather enough money to buy their way out of the contract, as it’s practically impossible for them to sell 6000 tickets. Dawn plans to do some advertisements, Gloria wants to sell her sex tape, and Summer has plans to sell tooth whitening gums, which Dawn says is a scam.

The girls arrive at Wickie’s childhood house and are welcomed by Wickie’s parents. This surprises them because Wickie has told the girls that her mother had lost her mind and her father had run off. Soon, it becomes clear that everything Wickie had told the girls about her tough life was a lie. She actually had a great childhood, and there’s nothing wrong with her parents.

They sit down for dinner, and Wickie’s parents start telling everyone about how mischievous and adventurous Wickie was growing up. They tell the girls how Wickie once locked herself in the cockpit so she could sing to impress a record producer, who turned out to be just a random man. This angers Wickie, and she gets upset thinking that she had everything while growing up.

She thinks she would’ve turned out better if she had been raised in a lower-middle-class house and had old clothes to wear. As the episode progresses, Summer tries to pitch the teeth-whitening gum to Wickie’s parents because they’re rich but ends up breaking their TV. However, they decide to buy the whole box so Summer doesn’t lose her confidence.

Meanwhile, Dawn suggests that Wickie ask her parents to bail her out of the Radio City contract. In case you didn’t know, they need at least half a million dollars to avoid getting sued. Dawn says that their tickets cost more than 500 dollars, and realistically, no one would buy them, let alone on Thanksgiving Day.

Even though this hurts Wickie’s self-respect and pride, she asks her parents for the money. This makes her realize that her parents weren’t the problem; she was. She starts having an identity crisis and sees herself as a loser.

Dawn asks Wickie’s parents for help, and they intentionally start being tough on Wickie so she can regain her self-confidence. They also refuse to give Wickie the money, knowing that Wickie is smart and will find a way. As the episode nears its end, the girls leave the house, not giving up once again.

The Episode Review

In episode 3, the girls travel to Maryland, where Wickie’s parents welcome them to a house contrary to Wickie’s stories of a troubled childhood. They brainstorm ways to raise money to buy out of their contract, including Dawn’s ads, Gloria’s sex tape sale, and Summer’s tooth-whitening gum scheme.

Wickie finds herself in an identity-crisis phase but manages to break free from it when her parents toughen up on her to rebuild her confidence. The girls leave, determined to find a way out of their predicament.
