Gi Nattak (Boss Fight)

Village of the Gi

Chapter 10 of FF7 Rebirth begins at the desert in Cosmo Canyon. You’ll now have Summon intel on Bahamut Arisen, and you’ll be able to call on Cid for any flights now – for a cost. When you’re ready, follow Red along the linear track all the way to Cosmo Canyon, collecting any materials along the way and defeating new enemies.

There are some side quests here, but given some of these parts are located on the other side of Cosmo Canyon, it’s a good idea to compete the story portion first and then tackle the side quests.

Eventually you’ll reach the top of the hill and have a lovely view of the place (pictured above). After descending down the hill, cross the bridge and a cutscene will trigger.

Welcome Back, Nanaki

At Cosmo Canyon, you’ll be free to check out a few of the stalls and talk to various people. There are shops of course, Queen’s Blood players and some new weapons. If you stop by the Weapon Vendor, you’ll be able to pick them up if you have the Gil (a lot of the better weapons here have a steep asking price of 5000 Gil though).

When you’re ready, keep going up the hill, following Red.

Pilgrimage/Watcher-to-be

After the cutscene, continue following Red up the hill and you’ll see him blast off in an elevator in the distance. Follow him to the Observatory Elevator and hold Triangle to lift it.

When it stops, follow Red all the way up the mountain to the observatory.

Gadgets and Gizmos Aplenty

Follow Bugenhagen inside, being sure to look around and grab the materials just outside the door. Head up the stairs and you’ll find Nanaki there. Interact with the projector, and then the trinket on the table after.

Go up the next stairwell just left of this table and press Triangle to interact with the balloon generator. Before you go up the stairs, go round the back of the stairwell and grab the materials there. Then, ascend up the stairs and press triangle to interact with the large telescope.

Finally, go back down the stairs and press triangle to interact with the phonograph (it’s just behind Aerith).

A Planetological Review

After all this, follow Bugenhagen inside the planetology room and approach him to trigger a cutscene.

Higher Learning

Go up the stairs and head out the observatory, all the way back down the elevator and along to the main part of town. On the way out the door, you’ll be stopped by Bugenhagen’s assistant, who will open up Discovery, Parting Gift.

If you take a slight detour for this, it’ll lead to a storeroom which holds 5x Moogle Medals, 5000 Gil, 1x Cosmotite Ore, 1x X-potion and 1x Crystal Megaphone.

Continue on your way and you’ll eventually be stopped by one of Bugenhagen’s men and he’ll encourage you to follow him.

Guidance

Follow the man through to the assembly where everyone is gathered around a fire. Watch the cutscene.

The River of Lights

Leave this area and go down the Torch Elevator on the other side of town. When you emerge, another cutscene will ensue. When you speak to Red, select “I’ll lend an ear.” to grow your relationship with him. As for Barret, choose “No, we fight“. Tifa’s best is “You did good“, Yuffie is “Why do you think that?” and finally, for Aerith (who you should approach last) choose “Encourage her“.

Sage Advice

After the beautiful lantern ceremony, follow Bugenhagen. When you’re ready, select “yes” to take part in the trial.

Follow the cave along and hold triangle to drop the elevator down.

Let The Trials Begin

Your party selection will now be locked to Red XIII and Barret. Continue forward and defeat the enemies in the first room.

With the enemies defeated, you’ll now be able to explore the room by climbing up glowing walls (like the one above). Go up the first to find a chest which holds 1x Hi-Ether.

Continue along the path, being sure to use the walls whenever you can. On the way, just by the strange spider enemies, you’ll find another glowing wall to the north east. Climb up and you’ll find a yellow chest holding 1x Revival Earrings.

In the next room you’ll find a large pillar in the middle of the room. Climb this and open the chest to grab 1x Mist Mega-Potion. Climb back down and up the wall to the right of the stairs leading down. Press triangle to drop the rope and open the door forward.

Defeat the enemies in this room and continue forward. Now, use Red to climb up the walls to the left, all the way round the room to another chest, this one holding 1x Celestial Bangle.

Jump down to the lower chamber and defeat the enemies. Keep descending to the bottom of the chamber, and proceed through into the next room – and the first trial.

The First Trial

Your task will be to grab ancient relics and bring them to Bugenhagen to understand more about the past. To the right, under some rubble next to Bugenhagen, bring this Warrior’s Charm to the old guy.

Climb the wall to the right of the statue. Drop down onto the platform midway and bring the Materia to Bugenhagen. You’ll receive 1x Healing Materia for doing so.

Climb the wall to the left and bring the wood back to Bugenhagen. You’ll receive 1x Baobab Wood.

Left of the statue you’ll find two items, bring them both back to receive 1x Exquisite Beast Spine and 1x Crimsonite Crystal.

Climb up the right wall again and find another platform. Bring this item back to Bugenhagen to receive 1x Mystic Collar.

Climb up the wall directly behind the statue and bring the relic to Bugenhagen. This will trigger a cutscene.

You’ll now be faced with defeating this Gi Lancer enemy. They’re weak to Fire and Healing (because they’re undead) and they tend to buff their physical strength and hit with melee strikes. Be sure to use your Materia here but it should be quite easy to fight.

Next, hold L2 to hold onto the relic and descend down into the next chamber, defeating enemies on the way. You’ll also find a yellow chest (pitured below) holding 5x Exquisite Beast Hides, 1x Piece of Sycamore Wood and 1x Piece of Ancient Bark.

The Second Trial (The Voices Within)

Descend down the stairs and take the relic to the Chamber of Observance. Place the relic on the Ruby Altar to the left. Next, grab the amber Gi statue and place it on the amber altar (the one glowing yellow).

In the middle of this trial, it’s a good idea to turn back and ascend up the stairs to the east. There’s a chest up here holding 1x Cosmotite Ore.

Finally, for the Emerald Statue, you’ll find it on the linear pathway down the stairs (next to the fiery statues) and along the east passage.

After climbing over the glowing wall and making it to the other end, take a right when you reach the pillars and just round the corner you’ll find another chest, this one holding 1x Plume of Phoenix Down. Go down the glowing wall to the very bottom and you’l find 2x Amethyst Material and also 1x Orb of Fortification Materia.

Climb back out the water, back up the hill and follow the path all the way forward to grab the Emerald statue. There will be more Gi Lancer enemies to fight though but deal with that, and then place the statue on the altar.

To Thine Own Self Be True

Follow Bugenhagen into the Chamber of Sacrifice, and be sure to open the chest here too to grab 2x Giga-potions.

First Gate

When you emerge out into this new area, you’ll be faced with a number of different gates. On the way to the first, you’ll find a yellow chest tucked just to the right under a glowing wall you can climb down holding 1x Bottle of Ether. There’s also a pink chest, just on the other side of the gate’s location holding 1x Calamitous Bazooka (pictured below).

To get the gate open, simply approach the chain wheel on the right and hold L2 to grab it and pull it back.

The Second Gate

In the next section, defeat the enemies thAt show up and pull the next chain to open up a makeshift bridge and a way over to the other side.

Head over to the other side and you’ll find a yellow chest holding 3x Gold Needles, just on the other side of the glowing wall.

Climb the wall and take a left at the fork in the road. This will bring you to the next gate. Hold L2 just as before on the chains but look just to the right and press triangle to hook the chain on and prevent it from slipping down.

The Third Gate

Defeat the enemies that show when you proceed through the gate and head up the linear pathway, defeating the stingers that greet you. Now, if you climb up the east wall and go all the way to the very top, you’ll find 1x Orb of Empowerment Materia up here.

Finally, go north west and you’ll find another chain wheel. Hold L2 just as before and pull it back to raise up some platforms to traverse over.

1) Climb up the wall to the right and pull this chain wheel at the top first.
2) Climb up this wall and you’ll find a chest holding 2600 Gil.

Proceed over to the other side by the gate and grab the trinket on the ground to the left. Hold L2 to carry this over to the right side of the altar and press Triangle to slot it in (pictured below).

When you’ve done this, hold L2 to lift the gate and press triangle over by the trinket you just placed down to keep it in place.

Head through the gate to the other side, and be sure to rest up at the bench ahead. It’s also a good idea to use the vending machine too.

Proceed forward when you’re done into the fiery chamber and you’ll have a big boss to contend with.

Boss Fight – Gi Nattak

Gi Nattak has no discernible weaknesses but hr does have a variety of different attacks, including Spectral Flames where he launches out a whole bunch of fiery orbs in your direction. Wrathful Lunge can be dodged to the side when he hits forward, while Withering Grip is a nasty move where he’ll grab one of your party and damage constantly until letting you go.

This foe is actually quite easy to stagger though, just keep hitting with Pressured Shots with Barret and switch to Red XIII and hit with your best melee attacks. Be sure to use Synergy Attacks when you can, and magic strikes are similarly quite effective too.

After the first stagger, Gi Nattak will conjure forth a whole bunch of Soul Flames. These minions are quite easy to beat but they are an annoying distraction and you’ll need to keep dodging around so Nattak can’t hit you. It’s a good idea to conjure forth a summon at this point if you haven’t already. Be careful of these foes though as they tend to debuff your party, including halving your MP and HP.

As for Gi Nattak, he won’t change the moves he uses but there may be a chance of you getting hit with Doom, where you’ll have to defeat Nattak quickly otherwise you’ll die if the timer reaches 0 and it’s still standing. However, the chances are that won’t happen, especially if you build the stagger again quickly and hit Nattak with your best attacks.

Defeating this foe will net you 3300 Exp, 10 AP 1650 Gil and 50 Party Exp.

The Watcher’s Verdict

Head forward into the next chamber and follow Bugenhagen to the statue of Seto. After the cutscene, follow Gi Nattak, and you’ll be back in control of Cloud too. Approach Nattak and watch the next cutscene play out.

Zack’s Scenes

Now you’ll be controlling Zack. Follow Biggs out the house all the way to the noticeboard and then keep following him. After another cutscene, leave the large arena and head back home again. Press triangle to interact with the front door.

Village of the Gi

Playing back as Cloud again, approach the bench and be sure to use the vending machines before heading deeper into the village. There’s also a pink chest here just to the left of the bench which holds 1x Ceremonial Staff.

When you’re done, head forward and defeat the Gi Lancers after watching the first cutscene. Keep following Yuffie up the path, defeating the enemies as you do. Eventually you’ll get to the top and another cutscene will trigger.

An Unquenchable Thirst

Back in control of Cloud, defeat the Gi enemies and walk up the broken stairwell to follow Nattak up to the shrine.

A Helping Hand

Follow the path back to Cosmo Canyon with Bugenhagen’s man. Step into the elevator and listen to the dialogue that transpires. When you emerge, head up the stairs and you’ll be back with Bugenhagen.

Uninvited Guests

At this point, you’ll be free to head around the settlement and by speaking to Bugenhagen’s guide, you’ll be able to fast travel around the Canyon.

For now, fast travel back to the entrance and watch the cutscene play out.

Wild, Blue Yonder

At this point, you’ll be free to Fast Travel around, and you’ll also have access to new quests in Cosmo Canyon too. 3 of these can be accepted from the quest board within Cosmo Canyon, and the fourth is located just south of the first Remnawave Tower nearest to the airstrip. There are also life springs, summon crystals and a bunch of enemies to Assess as well.

On top of all this, be sure to grab the Piano sheet here, which is located in Cosmo Canyon on the piano inside the Inn.

Finally, with all of this done, head over to the airstrip and speak to Cid. Choose “Nibel Airstrip“, pay the 3000 Gil to make the journey, and we’ll be onto the next leg of our journey!
