Everything Now – Episode 8 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

Winning

Episode 8 of Everything Now starts with Mia at Dr Nell’s office, lying about how she has been sticking to the meal plan. She says everything is good with her family and friends. Mind you, her family is still reeling from the divorce, and most of her friends are angry at her. Dr Nell asks Mia to be truthful and asks again, but she is adamant all is well.

Elsewhere, Becca is volunteering at the retirement home and recruits the help of her friends. Alison shows up looking exhausted and heartbroken. Will is pouting, and Cam is curious if Mia will be there. Becca informs them she is still waiting to hear from Mia. It has been a week, and she thinks Mia needs her space.

In the meantime, Viv waits for Mia outside of Dr Nell’s office. She strikes up a conversation with a woman. Mia sees the woman and greets her. It turns out the lady is Jenna’s mom. Jenna and Mia were roommates while in rehab. Unfortunately, the lady, Carol, informs Mia that Jenna is dead. Viv and Mia quickly say their condolences, and Carol heads in to talk to the doctor.

Viv and Mia return home. Viv worries that Mia might be more affected by the news of Jenna’s passing. Mia lies she is fine, but she can only think about Jenna’s list of the things she wanted to do. Viv realises something is off, and when Mia is showering, she checks her room.

She is stunned to see Mia hid food in one of her dressers. She tells Mia that they need to go back to Dr Nell. Once Viv leaves to grab a bag and call Dr Nell, Mia grabs her bag and runs away.

Where does Mia go after running away?

She heads to the store to see Carli and convinces her to skip work and hang out. Viv frantically calls Rick, and they try to trace Mia. Rick blames Viv, and she, in turn, blames him for leaving. Rick says he met his new girlfriend in the parent’s support group that Viv never attended.

They call Mia’s friends, but no one knows where she is. Even though they are angry at Mia, they immediately coordinate to search for her. Becca goes with Cam to check their usual hang-out spots, and Will and Theo remain at the retirement house to hold the fort. Unfortunately, Alison learns later that Mia is M.I.A. An older woman advises her to stop caring too much about Mia and focus on herself.

In the meantime, Mia and Carli have a great time. They do most of the things that were on Jenna’s list. However, Carli realises that Mia is acting strangely. Mia admits she is struggling and doesn’t think she will make it. She says Jenna was stronger, and she is gone. She wonders if she even stands a chance. Anorexia takes seven years to overcome, and she is not sure she can handle the treatments any longer.

Carli asks her to be courageous and to stop running away. She argues the only way for Mia to survive is to face the illness head-on.

Does Mia take Carli’s advice?

After hearing Carli’s advice, Mia takes herself to Dr Nell and finally tells him the truth about everything. Dr Nell is pleased and says the fact that she opened up is a sign she is getting better. People with her illness typically thrive in secrecy, but Mia broke down those walls.

Although Mia doesn’t feel like she is getting better, she is happy she is on the right track. She is still grieving Jenna and thinks Jenna won by dying. However, Dr Nell assures her that she is winning.

He later calls Mia’s parents, and the family shows up to support Mia. They pick her up and assure her that they have her back. Viv and Alex take Mia home, and Rick returns to his car. We then learn that the woman he is dating is none other than Carol. Damn!  Talk about being complicated.

Do Cam and Becca make up?

Becca finally tells Cam about the abortion and why she has been angry with him. Cam is shocked and feels guilty he was not there for her. He understands her decision and only regrets the way he acted when they were together. He apologises for calling her a skunk.

Once Mia is found, they return to the retirement home, and Cam confesses his love for Becca. She says nothing other than bye and leaves with her current boyfriend. Later, she tells the gang that she is single and broke up with the guy. She is hoping Cam will take the hint and ask her out officially.

Do Will and Theo reconcile?

Will and Theo have an honest talk. Will was freaking out about Mia missing. He feared for the worst and blamed himself for not noticing her relapsing. He thinks he is a bad friend because he didn’t initially see her illness. Theo tells him it is not his fault, and they discuss their relationship.

Will admits he is scared of intimacy, and Theo says they can take it slow. Will feels better and gives the people at the retirement time a good time. You know Will is always the life of the party!

How does Everything Now end?

Mia visits Carli to ask if they can be together, and Carli turns her down. Carli thinks Mia is using her as a distraction and says she might have been doing the same.  Carli asks Mia to give up on them as it is not healthy. She argues they need to learn to be more than a fantasy to each other; more than a fix to cover up their family situations.

Later, Mia meets with Cam and apologises for being a lousy friend. Thank God, she finally realised it! She asks how Cam is doing, and he says he is hanging in there. She thanks him for saving her life.

They meet up with the rest of the gang, and Mia apologises again for putting them through hard times—the constant worry of whether she will make it.

They decide to eliminate the old list and make a new one together. The episode ends with Mia recommitting herself to her treatment and getting better.

The Episode Review

The last chapter wrapped up perfectly, with all the storylines ending well. Cam and Becca might have a chance, and we will root for them. Will and Theo are going strong, and we can’t be happier for them. Alison is in her over-Mia era, and it is about time. She deserves better, and it is a good thing she realised this.

We need to commend Carli for her self-awareness. She is a great advisor. She is also intelligent and recognises her relationship with Mia is based on something other than love. It was a distraction, and she cut it off the best way she could. Kudos to her!

We only want to know what happens when the Polanco family learns that Rick is dating Carol. Will it affect Mia’s healing journey, and how is Alex doing? We need to see more of Alex if we get a new season.
