Delicious In Dungeon – Season 1 Episode 21 Recap & Review

Egg/The Golden Country

Episode 21 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with Shuro and Kabru’s group exiting the dungeon. Shuro tells Kabru that he plans to report things to the Island Lord. However, Shuro says he doesn’t want to share details about Falin and Laios with the Island Lord. Next, Kabru learns that a ship of western elves (Canaries) is nearby so he suggests he, Shuro, and the others flee soon.

Kabru says the Canaries occasionally investigate dungeons and take control of them. Later, Shuro and Kabru visit the Island Lord’s residence and spot Namari with her allies. Shuro tells Namari that Laios and his crew are still working on rescuing her. Then, Namari informs the two the Island Lord is busy chatting with people. Shuro and Kabru assume he’s speaking with the Canaries.

Kabru reveals that his hometown once thrived from having a dungeon. However, the dungeon’s monsters escaped, enticing the Canaries to arrive and handle the issue. As a result, many of Kabru’s people, including his family, lost their lives. Therefore, Kabru tells Shuro he doesn’t want to live in a world where certain races wield more power than others.

Next, Kabru and Shuro enter the building, informing everyone of Falin’s transformation. This causes several folks, including Mr. Tansu and the Island Lord to panic. Then, Kabru reflects on his skillset and why he chooses to help capable adventurers conquer things rather than do so himself. Although Laios wasn’t the adventurer Kabru thought he was based on rumors, Kabru argues Laios is the closest to reaching the dungeon’s heart.

Therefore, Kabru vows to prevent the Canaries from interfering in Laios’s possible destiny. Although the Island Lord allows the Canaries to proceed, Kabru stops them and opens up about his hometown’s (Utaya’s) dreadful past with them. Moreover, Kabru reveals their female vice commander took him in after his hometown’s demise. Kabru shares more details about the tragedies that happened to his people and the Canaries’s soldiers after his citizens perished.

Moreover, Kabru suggests the Canaries seal the dungeon up. Kabru promises to evacuate everyone in the dungeon. One of the Canaries says they’ll hold an investigation and doesn’t know if they should trust Kabru. Additionally, this member says if they find something amiss, they’ll send in troops. Meanwhile, Senshi and the others prepare an egg-themed meal.

While eating, Izutsumi senses a mysterious presence. Laios tells the others that it’s likely a ghost. He says this presence has followed them since Marcille turned to stone in a previous chapter. Laios thought it was a hallucination this whole time. The ghost tells Laios to tell the others that it saved them from the lunatic magician’s trap too. Moreover, the ghost wants Laios and his friends to meet someone.

The ghost transports Laios and the others near a village that houses the Golden Country. They meet a male villager to take him to their residence. There, the male villager tells Laios and his friends to explore the village while they wait for the Golden Country’s master to arrive. While Senshi and Laios explore the Golden Country, Marcille, Chilchuk, and Izutsumi stay behind.

Later, Laios and Senshi regroup with Chilchuk and ramble about the Golden Country’s activities that interest them. Eventually, Marcille and Izutsumi regroup with our male trio and Chilchuk laughs at Marcille and Izutsumi’s dresses. Laios notices Izutsumi’s acting more calm than normal. Marcille believes the Golden Country’s multiple barriers might be causing Izutsumi and other beast-like organisms to act peacefully.

Then, Laios and his friends meet Yaad, the Golden Country’s current master and Lord Delgal’s grandson. While they all eat, Yaad explains the lunatic magician placed a curse on him and his people, preventing them from feeling hungry. Moreover, Yaad says Delgal blames himself for enticing the lunatic magician to focus more on black magic than other things.

Yaad reveals that Delgal went to the surface for guidance. Marcille reveals Delgal’s fate and dungeon reward to Yaad. Yaad’s thankful Delgal got liberated from his suffering. Yaad admits many people attempted to flee the Golden Country. Unfortunately, Yaad says these folks lost their bodies, and identities, transformed into Fiends (the ghostly apparition species that Izutsumi sensed), and cannot return to the Golden Country.

Yaad tells Marcille the Fiend sent them here to fulfill a prophecy. He argues Laios, Marcille, and the others are destined to defeat the lunatic magician and free Yaad and the others from their cruel fate. He mentions a winged sword and Marcille tells Laios Yaad might be referring to Kensuke. Laios takes Kensuke out and notices a winged-lion emblem on his blade.

Yaad tells Laios that the winged-lion emblem represents the Golden Country’s guardian deity. Moreover, Yaad says the lunatic magician imprisoned this beast in the dungeon’s depths but says it has the power to guide them via its prophecies. Yaad says Laios will become the Golden Country’s king based on the prophecy. Yaad asks Laios if he can fulfill that prophecy and Laios insists Yaad give him time to contemplate everything.

After Senshi shares his opinion on Yaad and his people’s lackluster cooking skills, the episode closes with Laios holding Kensuke in bed.

The Episode Review

This past episode’s heavy emphasis on Izutsumi’s character was a prelude for this week’s informational-heavy chapter. Some audiences may not adore this episode for its lack of feverish moments. However, others will find this chapter intriguing for its world-building alone. From Kabru’s past to the Golden Country’s citizens’ lifestyle and prophecy, Delicious In Dungeon will keep its patient viewers engaged and interested.

That’s not to say this episode didn’t contain heartfelt and casual commentary though. There were touches sprinkled within this chapter whether on purpose or for the fun of it. From Izutsumi’s cuddly attitude to Laios’s infatuation with milking a minotaur, episode 21 contains scenes that’ll make fans’ hearts soar or tickle their funny bones.

Nevertheless, some folks may argue the drawn-out dialogue portions were too much. Others may argue some of its critical data could’ve been saved and introduced to audiences in follow-up or previous chapters. The details shared about Kabru’s tragic upbringing are a great example. All in all, this was a wonderful showcase from Delicious In Dungeon.

It gives our heroes more problems to contemplate and audiences more lore to seek their teeth into. I’m excited to see how Laios will respond to Yaad and what will unfold between Kabru and the Canaries’s debacle.
