Delicious In Dungeon – Season 1 Episode 18 Recap & Review

Shapeshifter

Episode 18 of Delicious In Dungeon begins with Laios and his allies discovering a blood-covered staircase while traversing the dungeon’s sixth floor. Then, we receive intricate details about the sixth floor’s origins from the narrator. Laios and his friends are baffled that everything’s cold down here. Meanwhile, Chilchuk remembers this is the area where the Red Dragon defeated them in episode one.

He insists that he, Laios, and the others head to the locale where they lost their belongings during that fight. While venturing, Laios informs the others about Falin’s brief mention of Lord Delgal, leaving Senshi and Chilchuk confused. Marcille says Lord Delgal was the Golden City’s final king before it crumbled a millennium ago.

After further discussion, Chilchuk wonders if the lunatic magician’s actions are fueled by the magician’s desire to find Lord Delgal. Laios says the magician saw the previous king perish and argues the magician doesn’t want Delgal to undergo a similar demise. Marcille and Chilchuk question Laios about that viewpoint, but Laios says his encounter with the magician during the Living Painting episode’s events gave him this assumption.

The four discuss the magician’s life expectancy. They plan to clear things up with the magician. Then, the four get caught up in a blizzard. Laios asks everyone to hold onto him. After that, Marcille uses a spell to lighten up the area. Laios and the others notice several copies of themselves. Additionally, Laios says they’re dealing with Shapeshifter monsters and explains their origins and powers to his comrades.

Marcille and Chilchuk help Laios pinpoint several Shapeshifter versions of themselves. Laios grabs and places a few Shapeshifter monsters inside a nearby prison. Then, Chilchuk, Laios, and Senshi examine and interrogate more versions of themselves. This results in two versions of Senshi, Marcille, and Chilchuk. Laios suggests that they cook up a meal.

He plans to distinguish who the real version of his comrades are based on the way they cook and behave during this feast. Although Marcille and the others doubt Laios, they proceed with Laios’s plan. Laios examines the two Chilchuk’s behaviors. Though Marcille and Senshi doubt one of the Chilchuk, Laios orders them to continue cooking.

Next, Laios examines and interrogates the Marcille and Senshi teams. Once both teams finish their meals, Laios highlights who the imposters are. The Senshis, Marcilles, and Chilchuks aren’t happy with Laios’s choices. This results in the clones fighting with each other. Moreover, Laios contemplates the true Shapeshifter monster’s agenda and origin more.

This encourages Laios to get on the ground and act like a hunting dog. Additionally, this causes the Shapeshifter monsters to dissolve and the true beast to reveal itself in front of Laios. Laios leaps at the beast like a dog. Marcille exterminates the beast with a spell to save Laios. The others head to a new location and ask Laios how he successfully identified the real versions of Chilchuk, Senshi, and Marcille.

While eating, Chilchuk notices a rice trail nearby. Laios, Senshi, and Chilchuk investigate the trail and it leads them to a prison with an empty rice bag inside. Then, one of Shuro’s former allies, Asebi, takes Marcille hostage. Asebi warns Laios and the others not to take another step. The episode closes with a close-up of Asebi’s face.

The Episode Review

Delicious In Dungeon went the Among Us route this week, giving viewers a humorous and thought-provoking episode. Fortunately, Laios found a way to distinguish the imposters from his allies, by using the fine art of cuisine preparation. On that note, Delicious In Dungeon’s world continues to be one of its strongest aspects as the Shapeshifters’ introduction adds more fuel to its originality.

Shapeshifters aside, the sixth floor itself contributes to the dungeon’s intricacy. From its winter-like ecosystem to its cluttered pathways, fans will appreciate the minuscule but noteworthy details behind it all. It’ll certainly pique viewers’ interests and make them question what else lies on this floor and other ones. Lastly, it’s great seeing Asebi pop up again.

Many may have questioned what became of her after last week’s action-packed episode. Hopefully, next week’s episode will dig into Asebi’s character, giving audiences details on who she is and why she abandoned Shuro’s group during the Falin encounter. All in all, this was a fun, slightly mind-numbing chapter of Delicious In Dungeon.
