Best Lee Joon-Gi K-dramas

Lee Joon Gi is a man with many talents. He is an actor, model, singer, and dancer. His acting debut in the critically acclaimed film The King and the Clown started his career with a successful bang.

He continues to win awards and impress viewers with stellar performances. His depth as an actor allows him to bring any role to life perfectly. It is always mesmerizing seeing him play a new role. It’s this diversity in his acting portfolio that has led to his popularity both at home and overseas.

Here are some of his best K-dramas to watch:


Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016)

Lee Joon Gi plays the mysterious, cold, and scary Prince Wang So. He is feared by his people and his brothers mostly because of his aloof nature and the mask he always wears.

He falls in love with Go Ha-jin (IU) who is a girl that time traveled by accident to the Goryeo Dynasty period. This love begins to change him and we get to understand his pain, struggles, and ambitions. However, his desire to take the throne and protect his loved ones brings major strife to their relationship.

Flower of Evil (2020)

This is one of the best crime thrillers, viewers were intrigued because it was so unpredictable. Lee Joon Gi brings to life the role of Baek Hee-sung / Do Hyun-soo. He is a man on the run and he is married to Cha Ji-won (Moon Chae-won) and they have a beautiful daughter together.

In a twist of events, his wife is a detective and she is part of the task force working on bringing him to justice. How will this marriage survive once Ji-won discovers her perfect husband is not who he claims to be?

Again My Life (2022)

This drama is based on a web novel and it follows the life of a determined Kim Hee-Woo played by Lee Joon Gi who dreams of being a lawyer. Even though his academic grades leave a lot to be desired, he remains resilient in his goal.

He works hard and finally joins a university and manages to pass the bar. He becomes a prosecutor but his dream is cut short when he is killed while investigating a powerful politician. Luckily, he is given a second chance at life and he decided to use it to pursue justice.


Lawless Lawyer (2018)

In this legal drama, Lee Joon Gi plays the role of Bong Sang-Pil who becomes a lawyer to avenge his mother’s death. He learns to take advantage of legal loopholes and manages to become one of the lawyers with the highest winning rates in court.

He uses his prowess in the law and returns to his hometown to put his revenge plan in motion. He teams up with Ha Jae-Yi ( Seo Yea-Ji ) who is also seeking justice for her mother. Together, they go up against the powerful people who committed crimes against them and try to get justice. Their fight for justice helps them bond and they fall in love.


Criminal Minds (2017)

This was a remake of the hit U.S. crime series “Criminal Minds.” He plays the role of Kim Kim Hyun-Joon and is regarded as the Derek Morgan character in this Korean remake. The murder of his father is one of the motives he became a police officer and has little patience with criminals.

He joins National Criminal Investigation (NCI), initially, he worked as a SWAT officer who specializes in explosive ordnance disposal (EOD). After watching one of his co-workers die  while defusing a bomb, he opts to transfer to the Violent Crimes Unit. 


Scholar Who Walks The Night (2015)

This is a historical drama set in an alternate Joseon era. Lee Joon Gi plays the role of a handsome, enigmatic scholar Kim Sung-yeol. He is a guardian vampire who has lived for 120 years and his main work is to kill other vampires that disobey their set of rules.

He is also planning to avenge the death of his family and his lover who was killed by Gwi (an evil vampire). He needs to find a memorandum by the late Crown Prince Jonghyun which has the secret to killing Gwi. He hires Jo Yang-sun who is a female disguised as a male bookseller to find the memorandum.

In their quest to kill Gwi, they fall in love but will they have a happy ending?


Arang and the Magistrate (2012)

This is a historical horror-romance K-drama set in the Joseon dynasty. Lee Joon Gi plays the role of a government official Kim Eun-oh who can hear, see and touch spirits.

He meets a female ghost A-rang (Shin Min-ah) who begs him to find her murderers and bring them to justice. This is the only way for her to be able to rest in peace. He is hesitant as he heading towards Miryang in search of his mother who has been missing for ten years. He however decides to help her when he realizes she is wearing a unique hairpin similar to the one he gave his mother.

This task proves to be difficult as they not only have to deal with Arang’s amnesia and corrupt officials, but they also have to prevent the leader of the grim reapers from capturing Arang.

  1. Time between dog and wolf is a great drama. Promote it again because it was definitely underrated. I’ve just finished the The Scholar that Walks the Night 🌙. Beautiful and intriguing to say the least.. i have just started watching “Tale of Arang”. America has nothing so brilliant and entertaining to watch.

  2. Loved him in Two weeks, Time between dog and wolf and Iljimae. These 3 shows are underated and hardly get mentioned. Real shame as Lee joon gi has done really good acting in them
