All of Us Strangers (2023) Ending Explained – What happens to Harry?

All Of Us Strangers Plot Summary

A screenwriter called Adam (Andrew Scott) who is living in a high rise in London is drawn back to his childhood home and discovers his parents (Jamie Bell and Claire Foy) are living just as they were on the day before they died in a horrific car crash, 30 years before. Adam also enters into a relationship with a mysterious neighbour Harry (Paul Mescal), who becomes a support for him during his loneliness.

Does Adam say goodbye to his parents?

Adam tells Harry that he’s been seeing his parents in ghostly form and takes him to the family home to meet with them. However, they are no longer there. Harry leaves after Adam insists on trying to get into the house. When Harry leaves, Adam’s parents appear, and he’s let in.

However, his parents decide it’s time to say goodbye forever, leaving Adam to try and make peace with their deaths and move on. After sharing one last bit of nostalgia at a diner, his parents begin to disappear forever.

What happens to Harry?

Adam decides to go and knock on Harry’s door. Adam hasn’t been to his apartment before, and the discovery will lead to the reasons why.

He opens the unlocked door, and there is no sign of Harry. Adam investigates further and is then hit by a strong rotting smell coming from one of the other rooms. He discovers Harry’s badly decomposed body. He has killed himself a while ago, revealing that everything that came after the initial night when Harry knocked on his door was Adam interacting with a ghost.

How does All of Us Strangers end?

Harry’s ghost then shows up in the apartment as if nothing has happened and says, ‘I’m in there, aren’t I,” before the realisation of his own death breaks him completely.

Adam consoles Harry and takes him back to his own flat. They lie in bed, facing each other, with Adam putting his arm around Harry. The ghost of Harry suggests Adam put a record on. He asks which one, but Harry tells him to choose. He puts ‘The Power of Love’ on by Frankie Goes to Hollywood, which was the song playing on the television when the pair first met.

The camera pulls away from the pair on the bed and they become glowing stars gradually getting smaller and smaller. They are soon surrounded by a constellation of other stars before the credits roll.
