9-1-1 – Season 7 Episode 3 “Capsized” Recap & Review

Capsized

Episode 3 of 9-1-1 season 7 starts from the perspective of another family onboard the cruise ship. The family is excited about the trip, but the parents are stressed about ensuring everyone is okay. While their oldest kids try to get into the zone and enjoy the trip, their youngest, Corey, can’t stop playing video games on his phone. His mom keeps reminding him to tag along to avoid being left behind.

Unfortunately, when the bomb goes off and the ship starts to capsize, the family rushes to safety, and Corey is left behind. He was on his phone and didn’t hear all the chaos unfold. By the time he realises what is happening, the second wave is about to hit the ship. His mom also realises Corey is not with them when they are about to board the lifeboats and decides to find him.

Presently, Athena, Bobby and the other survivors on the ship assess their situation. Bobby notices that the ship has tilted, and Norman is hanging upside down. He uses his skills as a firefighter to lower Norman. Thankfully, Athena and the rest are willing to help. After lowering Norman, they plan how to escape.

Bobby says they have to get to the lower deck and get out through the hole the bomb made. Norman worries if he will make it out while refusing help from Julian. Athena orders him to get a grip and cooperate if they are all to survive.

Maddy calls Chimney to ask if he has reached out to Hen. He explains that Hen has been avoiding his calls. Maddy tells him about Hen’s clearance and reinstatement as Captain, plus he has concerns over Athena and Bobby’s safety. Unfortunately, 118 gets a call, and Chimney and the team rush to handle it. However, everyone is now concerned about Athena and Bobby. Chimney asks Maddie to keep him updated.

After 118 leaves, Hen sneaks into the station and fills out a priority resource requisition document. She gets a call from Maddie, and her location is exposed when Maddie overhears an alarm going off. Maddie informs her that no one is taking her concerns seriously.

Back at the cruise ship, the survivors continue to navigate the halls, trying to reach the lower decks. Norman remains angry toward Lola and Julian. Sadly, as they continue to climb, Wes, the guard, opens a door, and it blows up. The Captain notes the smell of gas and deduces that one of the gas lines ruptured, and Wes set it off when he opened the door. Bobby tries to treat Wes’s wounds, but he dies.

The survivors continue their ascent and run into Corey’s mom, who is stuck. They do their best to save her stuck arm, but all she keeps talking about is her son. Bobby volunteers to return and find Corey while Athena and the Captain lead the others to the hole. Throughout this time, Lola apologises to Norman, and they finally talk about their marriage.

Back on land, Hen uses the emergency resource requisition form to get a helicopter. She is surprised when an old friend, Tommy, helps her. She is even more surprised to find the 118 team on the aircraft, ready to save their Captain. Chimney and Hen air out their differences, and she says she doesn’t want to get them into trouble. They worry they might lose their jobs but don’t care.

The team circles the estimated area the ship is supposed to be while Chief Simpson calls to threaten them. Due to the bad weather and the fact that the ship has almost entirely capsized, they are unable to see the ship.

At the same time, the survivors get to the hole and hear the helicopter circling above. Julian volunteers to climb up and fire the flare gun. He hopes to atone for his mistakes by doing a good deed. Unfortunately, he trips and dies. Athena gets the flare gun and shoots it, finally alerting 118 to their position. Tommy quickly calls for backup and lands on the capsizing ship.

Meanwhile, Bobby finds Corey and starts their ascent to the others. One of the doors closes, and Bobby tries to open it. They are about to drown when Buck and Eddie show up and save them. Bobby is so happy and relieved to see them.

The following morning, Chief Simpson holds a press conference and updates everyone on the successful rescue operation. The operation is still ongoing, but so far, so good. He credits the Los Angeles Fire Department for the swift action, saying it might be unusual, but they go where needed. Hen and the others are happy they won’t lose their jobs since Chief Simpson said he authorised the rescue. Hen is also grateful Maddie snitched on her.

Bobby and Athena reunite at the rescue ship and warmly embrace and kiss each other. Whoever chose the music for this scene knew what they were doing to us. It got us in our feels and enriched the scene. Corey and his family also reunite. Lola is arrested as she helped Julian in his criminal activities. However, Norman promises they will discuss their relationship later. On the other hand, Bobby thanks Hen and says he is proud of her.

The episode ends with Athena and Bobby returning home and getting busy in bed!

The Episode Review

At this point, Bobby and Athena are an iconic couple. These two make us believe in love, and it is beautiful to witness their story. Why they were worried is beyond us because it is evident they love each other deeply, and their marriage is only getting better.

As for the two besties, Hen and Chimney always make up, so we were not worried about them. Once again, 118 saves the day no matter what is happening behind the scenes. We are glad it ended well because Chief Simpson would have come for their throats otherwise. It was also good to see Tommy.

That was the final instalment of the cruise ship disaster, and we are excited to see the crossover we never saw coming in the next episode. Check out our spoiler to find out why Buck is bothered and bewildered in The Bachelor’s iconic mansion.
