Siren Season 2 Episode 7 Recap & Review

Nicole Makes Her Move

After last week’s shocking reveal at the end of the episode, we return to Bristol Cove to find Maddie and Ben desperate to formulate a plot to stop the oil company. While deliberating over their next move, it’s quickly revealed that the dead body is in fact Xander’s Dad who was killed last season out at sea. This inevitably brings the feds into town and with it, a whole slew of problems.

There’s an adverse effect to the mermaids using the tank too, which we find out pretty early on in the episode. As the residents catch wind of the recent dead body and the arrival of police to their shores, Ryn stays behind while Helen leads the rest of the mermaids to a safe haven high up in the mountains. Once there, they discover some startling evidence linking to the ancient history of both humans and mermaids that may just act as foreshadowing for what’s to come for the rest of this season.

While this is going on, Nicole comes out from the shadows to make her intentions known too. After duping Xander, she sets her sights on Ryn; the alpha mermaid she’s been looking for. After negotiating with her military friends, they agrees to let her bring Ryn in willingly and Nicole wastes no time trying to convince her. Convince her she does too, and as Ryn makes an uneasy deal with this slippery woman, question marks remain over what direction this development is likely to take going forward.

Meanwhile, Ben, Xander and Calvin all get called in for questioning with the feds. With wildly different stories full of inaccuracies and contradictions, Ben startles everyone by confessing to the murder of Xander’s Dad. The police don’t buy it for a second though and as the boys prepare themselves for the consequences of their actions, the military call off the investigation and the charges are dropped.

As the pieces align ready for next week’s episode, things look set to kick off in a big way. There’s some real drama being spun here now and the interesting alignment of storylines between the oil company and military offer some really nicely worked segments. It’ll be interesting to see where the show goes from here but based on the way this season has been shaping up, it looks like we’re set for some explosive action sooner rather than later.
