DIRECTOR – Shō Tsukikawa

Shō Tsukikawa is a well-known writer, screenwriter and director who graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts with a Master of Film New Media. So far, he has several Japanese movies and dramas including the smash hit 2017 film, “Let Me Eat Your Pancreas”. 


SCREENWRITER-  Tatsurō Mishima

Tatsurō Mishima, who is known for Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead (2023) and City Hunter (2022), has written the screenplay of this Netflix Original. The original manga series was written by Yoshihiro Togashi which released in 1990. Other than Yu Yu Hakusho, Togashi is also known for writing another popular manga, Hunter x Hunter.  


MAIN CAST

Takumi Kitamura as Yusuke Urameshi

Yusuke Urameshi is a fourteen-year-old delinquent who attends Sarayashiki Junior High School. His poor school attendance, constant fighting and bad habits have earned him the fear of his classmates and the disdain of his teachers and neighbours. This all changes rather abruptly when Yusuke is struck and killed by a car while saving a small child who has wandered into the road.

His actions catch even the Underworld by surprise and because they do not have a place for him yet in heaven or hell, he is permitted to return to his body and resume his life but with certain terms and conditions.

Takumi Kitamura is an actor and a musician who is the leader of Stardust’s music collective Ebidan and a part of the subunit Dish. He made his acting debut in 2008 with the film ‘Dive!!’ which kickstarted his acting career. Kitamura was seen in a total of 21 TV shows and 38 films. 


Jun Shison as Kurama

Kurama is a Fox Demon and former thief, who specializes in undoing seals and stealing ancient treasures. Fifteen years before the series began, he was badly injured and escaped to the Human World in soul form. There, he entered an embryo in a pregnant human woman, becoming Shuichi Minamino at birth.

Jun Shison is a Japanese actor and member of the male actor group D-BOYS and D2 affiliated with Watanabe Entertainment. He is known for his roles as Kai Asakura in the TBS drama adaptation of ‘Fermat no Ryōri’.


Kanata Hongō as Hiei

Hiei is introduced as one of three wanted demons, alongside Kurama and Goki, who stole three treasures from the Underworld. With the Conjuring Blade, a sword that turns anyone cut by it into a demon, he plans to create an army.

Kanata Hongō is part of Stardust Promotion and has appeared several times in music videos, movies, TV series, and magazines. His breakthrough role was as Ryoma Echizen in the live-action film adaptation of ‘The Prince of Tennis’ and became even more widely known when he was cast as Shin in ‘Nana 2’.


Shuhei Uesugi as Kazuma Kuwabara

Kazuma Kuwabara is Yusuke’s classmate at Sarayashiki Junior High School. Despite his unusual affinity for kittens, he is the second toughest delinquent at the school, constantly picking fights with Yusuke to prove himself stronger, but never succeeding. Eventually Kuwabara’s feelings of anger toward Yusuke become feelings of respect.

Shuhei Uesugi made his acting debut in 2015 and has starred in a wide range of projects. Over the years, Uesugi has starred in 9 films and 12 TV shows in total.
