Where is Scott Lee Kimball now? | The FBI informant who became a murderer

Scott Lee Kimball

What did Scott Lee Kimball do?

Scott Lee Kimball murdered at least 4 people, with 3 of these victims dying at his hands while he was officially an FBI informant. He also allegedly attempted to kill his son, but no charges were ever filed in that case due to arguments over jurisdiction. The body of his second victim, Jennifer Marcum, has never been found.

The police suspect he might’ve been responsible for as many as 21 other unsolved murders. Kimball was originally a fraudster, and the FBI paid him and protected him from prosecution over some of his fraud schemes in exchange for information. None of the information he gave them was useful in prosecuting other crimes, and the whole situation became an embarrassment to the Bureau, especially when details of Kimball’s more serious crimes were revealed.

What happened during his sentencing?

Kimball pleaded guilty to 2 counts of second-degree murder in a Boulder, Colorado courtroom. He was originally charged with the murders of 4 people. The judge sentenced him to a total of 70 years in prison for the 2 charges as part of the plea agreement.

Kimball was already serving a 48-year prison sentence on fraud charges. He was also sentenced to 70 months on a federal gun charge. The murder sentences are being served concurrent to his state fraud case and the federal gun case.
