What did Herb Baumeister do?

Herb Baumeister was a suspected serial killer who lived in Westfield, Indiana. He is believed to have murdered dozens of gay men in the early 1990s. Most of his suspected victims were last seen alive in gay bars where Baumeister was known to pick them up. Police found the remains of 11 men, 8 of whom were identified on Baumeister’s property.

Was Baumeister the 1-70 Strangler?

In addition to the murders of these 11 men, Baumeister was also suspected of being the unidentified I-70 Strangler, who killed at least 11 young boys and men in Indiana and Ohio between 1980 and 1991. The killer dumped all the naked or partially clothed dead bodies near Interstate 70. He was known to meet his victims in popular gay bars, which matches up to Baumeister’s known modus operandi.

The case is still officially unsolved, but Baumeister was named as the prime suspect in April 1999 by the authorities. According to investigators, bodies related to the 1-70 strangler case stopped turning up in 1991 after Baumeister bought the Fox Hollow Farm, which was the burial site of his confirmed victims.
