What did Ethan Crumbley do? 

Ethan Crumbley killed 4 of his classmates and wounded 7 others, including a teacher, at Michigan’s Oxford High School in 2021. On the 30th of November, when Crumbley was just 15 years old, he took a gun from an unlocked container in his home, hid it in his backpack and opened fire on his classmates at school. 

Crumbley entered a bathroom at the school and moments later, he exited holding a semi-automatic handgun, which he started firing in the hallway during passing time. Students started fleeing the scene while the teen shot into classrooms and at students who were unable to escape.


Crumbley pleaded guilty to 1 count of terrorism causing death and 4 counts of first-degree murder and 19 other charges related to the case.


What is happening to Ethan Crumbley’s parents?

Jennifer and James Crumbley are the first parents in American history to be charged and tried for their role in a mass school shooting.

They were charged with 4 counts of involuntary manslaughter and they have pleaded not guilty.

They are being tried separately, with Jennifer Crumbley’s trial currently ongoing after it started on the 23rd of January 2024. James Crumbley’s trial is set to begin in March 2024.


Where is Ethan Crumbley now?

Ethan Crumbley is serving his life sentence in the Thumb Correctional Facility in Lapeer County. It’s a level 2 security prison and it has a unit that houses youth offenders.
