Where is Sheila LaBarre now? | As featured on Making a Serial Killer

The Channel 5 series Making a Serial Killer uses gripping detective stories, first-person reports, and interview footage to help viewers understand the actions of serial killers.

One episode is centred around Sheila LaBarre, a deeply disturbed woman who murdered her boyfriends.

In this article, we take a brief look at her case and ask the question: Where is Sheila LaBarre now?

Who is Sheila LaBarre?

Sheila LaBarre was born in Alabama in 1958. According to reports, she had a troubled childhood due to an abusive and alcoholic father who allegedly raped her.

In the early 1980s, Sheila slipped into a coma following a car accident. While she was unconscious, she allegedly met with God who told her that her work on Earth wasn’t done. According to Sheila, God tasked her with killing abusers like her father.

After regaining consciousness, she attempted suicide and was admitted to a psychiatric facility.

In 1987, Sheila moved to Ebbing, New Hampshire and moved in with a 61-year-old widower named Wilfred LaBarre. She never married Wilfred but she did take his last name. When he died at the age of 74 in 2000, she inherited everything from him, much to the annoyance of Wilfred’s children.

Who did Sheila LaBarre kill?

Sheila LaBarre killed at least two men, both of whom she formed relationships with after luring them to the farm. One of these was Michael Deloge, a 37-year-old from New Hampshire, who had struggled with addiction.

Sheila also met a 24-year-old named Kenneth Countie Jr. in 2006 while using a phone chat line. Their first date was on Valentine’s Day in 2006. Days later, he moved to Epping to join Sheila on the farm. When his mother failed to hear from him, she contacted the police.

When police searched the property, evidence relating to Sheila’s killings was found. After being questioned about Michael, she claimed that he had admitted to being a paedophile. This allegation was later found to be false.

Sheila had stabbed Kenny to death and burnt his body. The police identified his DNA from his army records. It’s unknown how Michael died but evidence related to his murder was found in the farm’s septic tank.

Where is Sheila LaBarre now?

In 2008, Sheila LaBarre was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. She was then sent to the New Hampshire Correctional Facility for Women. She made an appeal in 2010 but this was rejected.

Today, Sheila remains behind bars which is where she will likely stay until the end of her life.
