Through My Window 3: Looking At You (2024) Movie Review – Another skippable Netflix smutty romance

Another skippable Netflix smutty romance

The genre of smutty romance movies that drop on Netflix month after month is immensely popular on the streaming platform. However, these films are more often than not, a miss when it comes to delivering a romance story that will be remembered fondly in the years to come.

Given the popularity of film series like Fifty Shades of Grey, 365 Days and After, Netflix has now released the third instalment of Through My Window – the Spanish take on smutty romances.

Through My Window 3: Looking At You is the third and possibly final movie in the series that follows the tumultuous romance of Raquel and Ares, neighbours turned lovers. The film narrates the journey of Raquel and Ares in their respective romantic relationships with Gregory and Vera and how Ares and Raquel keep getting drawn to each other time after time.

We also see the journeys of Artemis and Claudia into parenthood as well as Apollo’s struggle in finding a partner with him being confused about his sexuality.

Through My Window 3: Looking At You is not all that bad, or so one would hope. The film is not an absolute travesty and not a compelling watch either. It just exists without any depth and the characters that journey through the 105 minute runtime.

No aspect in the film makes this one that would make viewers want to come back for a rewatch. There is a lack of motive or drive in the characters and this fact still stands true in the third instalment of the series. Through My Window is a film series that can serve as white noise; you can keep playing it in the background when you have to complete chores.

The film feels repetitive with Ares and Raquel trying to find their way back to each other, one conflict after another. The individual journeys of the other Hidalgo brothers – Atermis and Apolo would have been a much more engaging watch.

After having watched two films about Ares and Raquel’s romance, I would much rather enjoy seeing Artemis’ struggles as someone who fell in love with his housemaid – Claudia, as he is welcoming a child with her.

Moreover, a complete spin-off series about Apolo’s misadventures in romance as well as an exploration of his sexuality would also have been an interesting plot.

The film acts as a possible conclusion to the story of Ares and Raquel but the ending of Through My Window 3: Looking At You is extremely rushed. It seems like a chunk of the film was cut off in the final edit and I’m not sure whether to be thankful for this or not.

If this film had been written in a better way, the makers would have ample room for spin-off stories revolving around the Hidalgo brothers. However, with the way things ended, it looks like the actors and the makers themselves are tired of these characters.

The movie, Through My Window 3: Looking At You tells a linear story of two young adults who are madly in love with each other and are victims of “wrong timing”. After minor struggles, the two eventually find their way to each other making this film a comparatively boring one-time watch that viewers can enjoy over the weekend.
