The Women is a general fiction novel that centres around the life of Frances ‘Frankie’ McGarth, a twenty-year-old nursing student. Raised in a sheltered environment on Coronado Island by conservative parents, Frankie has always strived to do the right thing and be a good person.
However, amid the changing world in 1965, Frankie begins to contemplate a different path for her life. When her brother enlists to serve in the Vietnam War, Frankie is inspired to make an impulsive decision and joins the Army Nurse Corps, following in her brother’s footsteps.
