Episode 7
Cugat sends an ice barrage toward Helga, so Guideau prepares herself to kiss the witch and regain her body. However, Ashaf tells her through his crows that they should keep their trump card hidden. She doesn’t like the idea but goes with it and orders Helga to run.
Guideau tries to punch the colonel, but he easily sends her away with his magic. When he is ready to go after the witch again, she gets even closer, almost punching his face this time. To ultimately stop her, Cugat freezes Guideau’s whole body and goes after the witch again.
Knowing witches are very resilient, he creates an enormous ice bolder and drops it. As he made a pact with a primordial power, he is on par with a witch. The Great Ice Elemental gave him his powers, making the colonel an extremely troublesome Elemental Spellcaster. Helga escaped his attack but her arm ended up being hit by a wooden stake. The confusion also made her lose the sword.
Ashgan, the weapon, calls out to someone, and Helga gets relieved. However, it wasn’t talking to her, but to Cugat, who was near them. The Spellcaster grabs the demon sword and easily defends himself from Helga’s attacks with his ice. Suddenly, Guideau throws a lamppost at him and sends him away with a kick.
Guideau starts a tug-of-war over the sword with one of the colonel’s companions. When she sees he’s ready to attack again, the girl throws it far away so none of them can get it. While Helga goes after it, she thinks Guideau is amazing for being able to let go of Ashgan so easily.
Guideau appears and grabs the sword, which tells her it hates her. As an ice breeze creeps up on them, she jumps on the witch, who uses a strange sword to make them fly. However, Cugat manifests a giant made of clouds in front of them.
When they get captured and put in armor (a restraining device), Ashaf appears and tells Cugat he wants to talk. He says that many people still fear witches deep inside, so it’s easy to accuse them of something. If a person dies while a witch is near them, it’s enough to make that a case against her.
In the Paladin fortress, the sword forces the soldiers to fight against each other to see who will obtain its power. Suddenly, the man from the church demands part of the squadron to shoot the soldiers and they do that. He reveals he is using a magical item to take control of people and get the sword. Meanwhile, Ashaf tells Cugat the Executioners, underground witch-hunting specialists, are responsible for the situation.
When the Colonel starts believing the story, Lowell, his companion, attacks him from behind. She says he would never work for the executioners, so he needs to die and sets him on fire.
The executioner uses his forbidden instrument to control Guideau, but that doesn’t affect the girl, giving her a chance to break the armor and escape. She takes Helga and the sword and attempts to get out of the fortress. However, when someone grabs the witch, she stays behind and asks Guideau to come back and save her.
Despairingly, as Guideau escapes the place and the executioner takes control of Helga, the witch thinks about how no one will ever return for her.
The Episode Review
While the start of the episode is fun, with Guideau surprising Cugat and trying to escape with Helga, the last portion is way better. The Executioners feel like the big villains of the story, and Ashaf’s talk with Cugat gives us more insight into how their world works. Not only that, but Helga also gets some development. It’s sad how she gave up everything in her life to protect the sword, ending up as someone who can’t trust others.
We also see a different expression in Guideau’s eyes when Helga sacrifices herself so she can escape. This is great, as Guideau has been just doing almost the same thing throughout the series. Now, she might have a new objective and even a different relationship with witches. Seeing this unfold will be exciting, as it has a lot of potential.
