The Signal – Season 1 Episode 4 Recap, Review & Ending Explained

How is Mudhi Connected to the Alien Conspiracy?

Mudhi is an ambitious billionaire who believes that if humanity ever makes contact with aliens, she should be the one to greet them. After she learns that Paula has located a strange signal in space, she tries her very best to keep the news secret from the world.

Her problems intensify when Mudhi realizes that Paula will not play into her hands like Hadi, so she decides to crash her plane. Paula and Hadi never make it to their family, akin to 170 other innocent passengers. However, she has always believed that Paula has somehow conveyed the details of the coordinates to her family.

Thus, she plans an attack on them, posing as the government to win their trust. Charlie and Sven give her the coordinates, and together, they head to the desert. However, during the flight, it is revealed that it was Mudi who orchestrated the bombing.

Unfortunately, even after doing everything, she didn’t win, as this coordinate wasn’t the right one either. Sven tries to say that there is no UFO and everything is the figment of Paula’s imagination. This infuriates Mudhi, and she asks her guards to kill Sven and Charlie. However, Nora steps in, asking to carry out the deed, only to let them go. Nora later confesses to everything, leading to Murdi and her arrest.

Do Sven and Paula Find the Aliens?

Towards the end of the episode, Sven and Charlie figure out that the coordinates they have only reveal the place where the UFO is going to land, but it doesn’t specify when. Eventually, Sven figures out the right time of the landing, which is three months later.

The father and daughter duo once again head back to the desert and notice a fiery object plummeting just a couple hundred meters away from them. However, when they go to check on it, it is revealed that it is not an alien ship but the NASA Voyager 1 probe that the Earth sent out in 1977.

On it, is a record containing images and sounds from Earth. So, whatever Paula was hearing during her time in space was coming from this probe, not an alien ship. Simply put, there were no aliens, only Voyager 1. So, Paula, Hadi, and 170 people lost their lives for nothing.

The Episode Review

The Signal” managed to pack a punch in just four episodes, covering everything from family drama to government conspiracy. Right from the beginning, we believed Mudhi was this noble scientist trying to cure an incurable disease and make the world a better place.

But towards the end, it turns out she’s a hypocrite willing to do anything, even if it means sacrificing innocent lives. But that’s not even the craziest part. The biggest shocker comes when we discover there were no aliens all along.

Heartbreaking, especially for Sven and Charlie, who lost someone because of it.
