The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil – Episode 1 Recap & Review

The Foolish Angel and the Demon

The teacher introduces the main character, Akutsu Masatora, to the class in the opening scene of The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil Episode 1. Akutsu is a new student at the school since he just relocated to the neighborhood. When Akutsu initially pretends to be bald, the teacher finds out about his naiveté since his wig falls off in a matter of minutes.

As he makes his way to his desk, Akutsu meets the gaze of Lily, who exudes an enduring charm. He is captivated by her dazzling Ruby eyes and begins to fantasize about a future together. Soon afterwards, he discovers that his classmate Hirota has asked Lily out on a date. Nevertheless, Lily rejects him practically without hesitation. In what follows, we observe Akutsu forming friendships with Hirota and another student, Tanigawa.

Lily and Akutsu cross paths later that day as he walks. Almost instantly, after suggesting that it could be fate, Lily extends an invitation to go out. Soon after, Akutsu intervenes to save Lily just in time from a collision with a car. Following this, Lily drags Akutsu with her to a nearby park.

At the park, Lily asks Akutsu whether he’s not a human. Akutsu is reluctant to tell her the truth at first, but he is inspired to do so after observing her composed demeanor. Following this, Akutsu reveals to Lily that he is a demon with a mission to complete on Earth.

Additionally, Akutsu asks Lily to work for hell with him. However, Lily now binds Akutsu with mystical ropes and reveals who she truly is: an angel. She proceeds to insult him for seeking help from his enemy. She then puts a mystical collar around his neck and forces him to help her side out in exchange for his safety.

The Episode Review

In episode 1, we are introduced to our primary protagonists. Akutsu turns out to be a demon, whereas Lily, his love interest, is an angel. A seemingly improbable romance between these two characters could develop throughout the season, given that they are each other’s enemies.

Up to this point, the show’s plot hasn’t been all that interesting or engaging. Furthermore, the characters also fall short of captivating you. Given that this is a devil and an angel we are talking about, these characters severely lacked the IT factor.

Since we are only one episode in, we can only hope that things go better for the rest of the season. Hopefully, the show lives up to its promising potential.
