Untold: Swamp Kings: Where is Urban Meyer now?

What happened to Meyer after the documentary?

After the events of Untold’s Swamp Kings documentary, which depicted the rise of the Florida Gators, Florida’s athletic director Jeremy Foley announced Meyer’s resignation on December 8th 2010. However, he stated that Meyer “would remain as the head coach through the Gators’ appearance in the Outback Bowl on January 1st 2011

On November 28th 2011 though, Meyer left the Gators and accepted the head coach position at Ohio State University. In fact, Meyer currently holds the highest winning percentage of all Buckeye coaches, with a current record of 73–8 in six seasons. He also won the 2014 National Championship with them.

In 2021, he made his debut in the NFL as a head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars but was fired after just 13 games. It’s clear Meyer was out of his depth, with Owner Shad Khan having this to say:

“After deliberation over many weeks and a thorough analysis of the entirety of Urban’s tenure with our team, I am bitterly disappointed to arrive at the conclusion that an immediate change is imperative for everyone.”

Why was Urban Meyer fired?

In Meyer’s only season with the Jaguars, the team registered 2 wins to 11 losses, its 10th season with double-digit losses in the past 11 years.

Situations off the field didn’t help Meyer’s cause at all either. Meyer hired a strength and conditioning coordinator who had been accused of making racist remarks and bullying black players. Furthermore, a video surfaced of Meyer with a woman other than his wife at a bar, visibly groping her.

If that wasn’t enough, former kicker Josh Lambo alleged that Meyer kicked him in the leg while he was stretching during a warm-up, causing even more controvery.

All of this, combined with that awful Jaguar record, contributed to him being fired.

Where is Urban Meyer now?

On January 26th 2022, Meyer spoke publicly for the first time on Dan Dakich’s podcast Don’t @ Me. He called his experience with the Jaguars: “the worst experience I’ve had in my professional lifetime.”

Meyer now works as a college football studio analyst for Fox Sports, joined by Reggie Bush, Matt Leinary, Brady Quinn and host Rob Stone. Together, they work on the pregame show, Big Noon Kickoff.

Meyer and his wife Shelley also started the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research, which is a general cancer research support fund dedicated to advancing cancer research for all cancers. You can find out more, including how to donate to that cause HERE
