The Path of Fear
Episode 1 kicks off on the “rancor planet” during the attack of the Nightsisters of Dathomir, a scene familiar to Star Wars fans from the Clone Wars film. The Nightsisters put up a brave fight, but their numbers were no match for General Grievous’ army.
Their arrows prove ineffective against the clone army’s blasters. Morgan Elsbeth, a native of the planet, watches in horror as her mother is killed by Grievous’ lightsabers. Grievous then orders the clones to find Morgan and add her to the fallen Nightsisters.
Morgan fights bravely but eventually succumbs to exhaustion on the battlefield. Luckily, she is found by the mountain clan, who informs her that the power of the Nightsisters has faded and everyone except Morgan has been killed.
They offer Morgan a place to stay until she finds a new path or purpose, but Morgan is determined to seek revenge for the massacre of her clan. Grevious’s evil laugh echoes in her mind, but she’s unsure how to proceed.
On the flip side, the droids are scouring every inch of the planet, hunting for survivors to exterminate. Morgan realizes that if they stay put, it’s just a matter of time before Grievous finds and wipes out the mountain clan, too. However, the clan’s elder believes their way of life will protect them.
The elder finally changes her mind when the droids start circling the mountains. They open fire, claiming many lives, including the elder’s daughter. As the episode wraps up, the elder hints to Morgan Elsbeth that the path she’s about to embark on will be fraught with dangers and sacrifices.
The Episode Review
Star Wars animated series always deliver, whether it’s tales of Jedi or the Empire. This time, the spotlight is on Morgan Elsbeth, a native of the planet Dathomir. Dathomir faced a tragic fate during the Clone Wars, with half its people slaughtered by General Grievous’s forces, turning the planet into a graveyard.
Thankfully, Morgan survived, but since her mother’s death, she’s had one burning desire, which is to get revenge for all that was taken from her.
