Stardust Telepath – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Planetary Gravity

Episode 9 of Stardust Telepath begins with Kei and her team pulling off a successful launch to kick things off. After seeing Kei’s team succeed during the launch and speech process, Umika panics because she isn’t sure she and her team will be able to attain similar success. Afterwards, Umika informs the audience that she didn’t give as powerful of a speech as Kei and that she and the others failed to advance past the qualifying round.

Kei pays Matataki back for the previous endeavor, but she’s overwhelmed by her and the other’s loss. Haruno tries comforting Matataki but she’s not willing to hear anything from her due to Haruno’s beliefs on loss and victory. Yu attempts to comfort Umika, who is having a rough time like Matataki. Umika opens up about being a terrible leader, highlighting her faults and wishing she could’ve been more like Kei. The following day, Umika’s sister asks her to go to the store to get groceries.

After leaving the store, Umika bumps into Kei, and the two chat at a nearby park. Kei tells Umika she and her friends had a fine launch during the championship and Umika tells her she’s not a great leader. Kei asks Umika to inform her about what inspired her to pursue this rocket building. Kei finds Umika’s goals fascinating while Umika fears she’ll never be capable enough of reaching those dreams.

Kei reminds her there’s a reason why her friends stood by her dreams. She tells Umika that she may have found a place where she belongs already. Kei inspires Umika to give it another go, work on her faults, and improve. After discussing things with Kei, Umika returns to the lighthouse to apologize to Yu. Umika arrives and stays for a while after discovering a note near the entrance. She ends up resting for a long time and searches the place, only to realize Yu’s not here anymore. Umika calls out to Yu and thankfully Yu responds.

Yu tells Umika she can spend the night here with her. The two discuss matters regarding Umika’s inner light and Yu’s home planet. Yu remembers a song she used to sing during her youth and sings it.

The episode closes with Umika thanking Yu for helping her rediscover her spark.

The Episode Review

Unfortunately, our girls’ time in the bottle rocket competition didn’t last too long. This was an emotional chapter from beginning to end. While many viewers won’t be satisfied that we skimmed through it with how much we’ve built up to it, this episode was jammed with enough compelling messages and themes to warrant it.

From Kei’s encouraging words to the touching moment between Yu and Umika, this episode will likely hit many fans’ heartstrings. At the same time, it’ll encourage folks who are currently in a rut to strive for improvement. Hopefully, with how much encouragement she’s received from her rival and her closest friend, Umika can spread this wisdom to Haruno and Matataki, especially the latter.

Matataki might be the toughest to convince, so we can expect another emotional confrontation to occur next week. Nonetheless, I’m hopeful Umika and the others will pick themselves off the ground from this loss and move forward.

Overall, this was a phenomenal chapter of Stardust Telepath. I’m excited to see what these girls plan to do in the future.
