Stardust Telepath – Season 1 Episode 6 Recap & Review

Salutatory Initiation

Episode 6 of Stardust Telepath begins with Umika meeting up with Yu, Matataki, and Haruno at school. She hopes they’ll be able to start up their Rocket Research Club activities soon. After belittling Yu’s foreheadapathy shenanigans, their teacher arrives and informs them she couldn’t get the staff to approve of their group as a club. However, the form states they’ve received approval for it to be classified as a hobby group.

Their teacher confirms they’ve received no funds, and an empty classroom to use after school, and that she’ll be their advisor. Although Matataki doesn’t think this will work out well for her and the others, Umika believes it should be fine. Their teacher hands them some cash to use. Instead of the empty classroom, the gang decides to make the lighthouse their main base for rocket building. They visit the lighthouse to celebrate the start of their Rocket Research Hobby Group.

The following day, Matataki brings safe tools for the gang to use to build black powder rockets. She’d bring the other tools but she and her father got into a debate over it. Matataki gives a lecture on how to make the same bottle rocket she used to win the competition from the previous episode. After Umika, Haruno, Matatki, and Yu build their rockets, Umika brings up a model rocketry event she discovered online. She believes it’d be great if they all attended it.

The following day, our girls meet their teacher at the Highland Food Park to attend the Foodie Fest event. Their teacher leaves to go visit some booths and the girls bump into Kei, the person who lent Haruno, Umika, and Yu plastic bottles to use for their match against Matataki. They tell Kei they’re attending Foodie Fest because they want to watch the jumbo model rocket launch event. Kei expresses her love for rocket building to the girls and leaves.

Our protagonists visit the model rocketry event and learn that Kei’s group is known for being champions in the craft. As they leave the event, Kei meets up with our group to pay Umika back for lending her money. Matataki tells Kei to hold on to her money. She says she can pay them back when they lose against their group in the upcoming Model Rocket Championship event. Kei tells Matataki she looks forward to competing against their group.

Umika’s worried they won’t be able to pull off a launch that’s on par with Kei’s group. The episode closes with Matataki reassuring Umika that they’ll win since they have her on their side.

The Episode Review

With their hobby group’s approval now behind them, it makes sense for the story to throw our girls into their first competitive event. While it’s unfortunate they couldn’t get approval for a club, this upcoming model rocket competition should give them the experience they need to reach their goalpost. Moreover, it’s interesting to see that Kei ended up playing a more pivotal role in the tale.

Many may have expected her to be a one-off background character. Giving her this rival role in the story not only will push Umika and her friends forward, but it give her character more meaning and fans more of a chance to foster a tight connection with her. That said, this episode did a nice job of showcasing her personality. It’s funny how she’s more of an upbeat version of Matataki.

On that note, we can anticipate future episodes will be dedicated to demonstrating how our girls will prepare for the championships. This allows the story to build upon their relationship with each other and their characters as a whole.

Overall, this was a fun episode of Stardust Telepath. I’m interested to see what Umika and her friends will do to prepare for this event.
