What happened in Episode 1?

The new season’s premiere involved the mother-son duo in yet another murder mystery. James Bouale, a morning show anchor for KLOP3, is killed during the broadcast. The set lights fall on him and Jennifer Gianola, his co-anchor, is the prime suspect. Margaret, who is now a managing partner at the firm, is tasked by Beverly to downsize as the firm has recently lost a slew of clients. KLOP is one of them.

However, Margaret decides against doing this and instead, tries to get KLOP back. Todd has got his PI license back and has opened an office on the firm’s floor. Allison has divorced Chuck and is crashing at Todd’s new apartment for the time being. Susan and Peter are now married.

Roy Dobbs, an intern at the station, is suspected by Jennifer of being the murderer. However, the mother-son duo are pitted against each other as Jennifer deploys Margaret as her attorney and Roy becomes Todd’s client.

Both conclude that neither of their clients is a suspect. The buck goes toward the other co-workers, Chalise and Matthews, who have a motive to kill James to get his job. The action shifts to Margaret’s apartment. She has recently started a romantic relationship with Gus. But the problem at Lawrence’s birthday party celebration is that Harry still hasn’t left.

Margaret has asked him to leave but he runs into Gus at the party. After learning the truth, Gus leaves, indicating to Margaret that she needs to sort this mess out. Jennifer is mysteriously electrocuted and Roy is taken into custody. He reveals that James used to communicate with him using a burner phone, which Todd finds in a safe in James’ office.

The lightman, John, is revealed to be the killer in sensational fashion. His unrequited feelings were not reciprocated, which is why he took this dire step.
