Shy – Season 1 Episode 9 Recap & Review

Melee, Surprise Trembling Fingertips

Episode 9 of Shy begins with Stigma observing the battle between Tzveta, Teru, and Pepesha from afar. Teru tries stopping Tzveta from harming Natalia but Kufufuf stops her. She toys with Teru for a bit with her skits, telling her she aims to make the world laugh. After Pepesha interferes with their battle, Tzveta tells Kufufu to focus on Teru while she handles Pepesha. Pepesha blocks Kufufu from harming Teru again, resulting in Kufufu and Tzveta engaging in an amusing discussion.

While those two are preoccupied, Pepesha tells Teru they should escort Natalia and the others to safety. Kufufu tries stopping Pepesha but Teru sucessfully guards her. Pepesha attempts to escape the area with everyone but finds herself back inside. Tzveta tells Pepesha they’re inside her heart, meaning they can’t escape. Tzveta informs the two no one can leave or enter this space. Tzveta plans to peek into Pepesha’s heart. Teru tries stopping Tzveta but Kufufu prevents her.

Tzveta uses this space to control Natalia and the others. She forces them to attack Pepesha and share her beliefs. Pepesha attacks Tzveta and Teru wonders if angering Pepesha is a part of Tzveta’s grander scheme. With Pepesha on top of her, Tzveta absorbs Pepesha’s power from her heart. We delve into Lenya’s past. She questions others’ viewpoints about the outside world and is unsure if she received something that fits the “wonderful” description.

Pepesha realizes Tzveta is her mother as the two become encased in an ice barrier. The episode closes with Teru calling out to Pepesha.

The Episode Review

And with that, Pepesha’s suspicions over Tzveta’s identity have ended. With the evidence the series provided viewers in previous chapters, this outcome makes sense given Tzveta’s looks and attachment to the orphanage. Now, it begs to be seen if Pepesha will have the courage and strength necessary to defeat her mother and save Natalia and the others from her mother’s grasp.

At the same time, that’ll make viewers wonder how Lenya ended up in this state, despite allegedly passing away. We’ll likely receive our answers next week, considering Stigma’s wandering Russia and observing our girls’ battle from a distance. Besides that, this episode properly introduces viewers to Lenya’s subordinate, Kufufu, who is as crazy as one would expect from someone with a clown get-up.

From her bombastic attitude to her ridiculous goals, she’ll likely become a fan-favorite, especially to those who adore crude and menacing clown fictional characters.

Overall, this was an enjoyable episode, brimming with enjoyable revelations, action, and tension. It’s likely the next chapter will give us lengthy details about Lenya’s past coupled with a nice battle between Teru and Kufufu.
