Shy – Season 1 Episode 12 Recap & Review

When I Cough, It’s The Two of Us

Episode 12 of Shy begins with the orphan children crowding around Teru and praising her. Natalia approaches Pepesha and is ecstatic that she has become a heroic figure. She reveals she holds Lenya in high regard because of her mature and thoughtful demeanor. Natalia says Pepesha will carry on Lenya’s legacy proudly, being a hero many folks will admire. ABO calls Teru and informs her that Unilord sent Stardust and Lady Black to their location after failing to reach her during her and Pepesha’s battle.

Stardust and Lady Black arrive. The former tells Teru and Pepesha that Unilord announced that all governments and heroes will work closely with each other whenever Amarariuku is causing problems. Pepesha tells Stardust she’ll inform Unilord about the details later and hands Stardust the ring Lenya left behind. She wants him to deliver this item to Unilord. Before he departs with Black, Teru thanks Stardust for his guidance.

Stardust tells Teru she doesn’t need to thank him for anything. He tells Teru why it’s important to be proud of oneself and the accomplishments they make on their own accord. Stardust departs but Black stays behind to help Pepesha and Teru tend to the orphan children and staff’s wellness. After Teru, Black, and Pepesha tend to everyone’s wounds, Natalia and the orphanage’s owner thank them for all their help. While leaving the orphanage, Teru tells Pepesha that she’s curious about Stigma and his plans.

Pepesha says it’s important that they prepare themselves for their upcoming bout with him. However, she suggests they rest up and visit a local bar. Meanwhile, Stigma comforts Kufufu since she’s down about losing Tzveta. While heading to school, Iko confronts Teru, and Teru is exhausted. Iko realizes Teru’s sick and informs the school she won’t be attending classes. Additionally, Iko plans to look after Teru during this troubling time and won’t be attending school either.

Teru thanks Iko for looking after her but says she shouldn’t abandon classes for her sake. Iko complies but offers to carry her home. When they arrive at Teru’s home, Iko asks her if she has anyone to watch over her. Teru says ABO’s the only person who’s staying with her (so far). Iko tells Teru to get some rest as she plans to go to a store to purchase medicine for her. Teru tells Iko she doesn’t have to, but Iko says it’s okay.

While in bed, Teru reflects on how she always feels lonely when she’s sick. She dreams about an instance where her older sister took care of her. She wakes up and sees Iko sitting by her bed. Iko tends to Teru’s cold and asks her about her older sister. Teru reveals her older sister passed away years ago and she was known for being a wonderful caregiver. Teru tells Iko she reminds her of her older sister while Iko says she respects Teru more now that she knows she’s not too different from normal humans and fights for humanity’s sake.

Iko leaves but informs Teru she’ll be calling her by her first name instead of her last name. We receive several stills depicting everyone participating in mundane affairs. At the same time, Teru reflects on Iko’s statement about normalcy and is happy she can experience life this way. Meanwhile, a fellow Amarariuku member confronts Kufufu and asks her where Stigma is. Kufufu doesn’t give a solid answer and continues fishing. Before they fight, another member intervenes and stops them.

She tells the hot-headed Amarariuku member that Stigma’s busy with his plans to save the world. The episode closes with Stigma sharing his plans with another Amarariuku member.

The Episode Review

And with that, Shy’s first season comes to an end. This season finale was a simple conclusion filled with set-up and heartwarming and amusing character interactions. Firstly, it gives the other Amarariuku members genuine introductions. While many would’ve appreciated receiving names for these characters, the introductions serve as nice teasers.

It’ll be interesting to see these new members interact with the heroes we know so far. Amarariuku aside, many will adore the casual and endearing chatter between Teru and Iko in this finale. The two have come a long way in their relationship. While many would’ve loved seeing Iko make more appearances in this first season, the bits we receive of her in this chapter will warm anyone’s heart.

By and large, this was a plain yet wonderful way to close this saga of Shy. I’m keen to see what awaits Teru and the other heroes in season two.
