Shangri-La Frontier – Season 1 Episode 25 Recap & Review

Episode 25

Bilac gets ecstatic upon seeing all the crystals Sunraku brought after fighting the scorpions, which makes him proud of himself. When Emul is about to remind he didn’t retrieve a Crystal Scorpion Stinger, he shoves a carrot in her mouth to shut her up. He obviously hasn’t overcome his failure yet.

Even though Bilac can make weapons using the Crystal Scorpions, she can’t do anything with the gemstones. Sunraku must sell them or have a jeweler turn them into accessories. Unfortunately, there’s no one like that in Rabituza, but the rabbit has a contact (although an annoying one).

Suddenly, a musketeer cat called Aramyis comes from the window saying Bilac is his maiden. He is a sword-master from the land of Cait Siths, Cazzeria. The cat is excited that Bilac is asking him for a favor and says he would even fight Lycagon for her, but that seems to make her even more annoyed.

Upon hearing of Sunraku’s accomplishments, the cat seems a bit doubtful. So, Aramyis tries to slash Sunraku to test the player. Luckily, he avoids him and gains the musketeer’s praise. Then, Bilac beats up the cat for doing that. He takes the gemstones, kisses her hand, and runs away from there.

Hizutome logs out and sees he has messages from Pencilgon and Katzo, both inviting him to talk about something. Instead of replying, he goes to sleep, wondering what they are planning. He returns to the game without reading their emails, thinking it’ll be something annoying.

He goes to Bilac so they can resume their mission, but there’s a small problem: Aramyis is there. As Rabituza and Cazzeria are sworn allies and Sunraku is Vysache’s underling, Cait Siths’ king wants to help the player. However, Sunraku doesn’t like that, as the journey might be less challenging.

Emul turns into her human form and Sunraku puts on his Medjed outfit (with Aramyis and Bilac inside it) so they can go to the city. Bilac and the cat can’t get along, so they almost rip the robe by fighting.

They end up attracting attention, but everything seems to be going as they want. Suddenly, a pink-haired girl stares at them and tries to talk with Sunraku. They have a very deep voice, fitting an old man, but not the character. Then, he talks about Medjed’s outfit, saying he knows the player Sunraku uses it.

The pink-haired girl actually is the Professor, the leader of The Library, a game lore clan. He loves the distinctiveness of the scenario flags, which makes the game perfect for those with a pioneer spirit. Unfortunately, the Colossi hold important information, but no one has defeated even one. Until Sunraku and his friends, that is.

So, the Professor asks Sunraku if he wants to learn the truth of the world. During a post-credits scene, we don’t learn the player’s answer but see that he’ll get a rematch against Lycagon soon.

The Episode Review

For a season finale, this is a pretty chill episode. It’s kind of disappointing, as you expect a bit more from it, but it’s nice to see it maintains its own rhythm. It’d definitely be worse if it tried to rush an interesting plot and affected the story’s quality.

Even though Aramyis has some classic annoying anime character traits, he isn’t so bad. The “pervert guy” joke doesn’t always land and it can get old quickly, but he already has other aspects to him. Also, he introduces a whole new universe to us, Cazzeria, and even some politics. It’s always nice to see the world expanding.

The episode doesn’t have any beautiful, emotional, or shocking moments, but it still makes you want to watch more. Having the Professor appear at the end is a great idea, as we may finally learn even more about this world. And everything seems to be connected, so it’ll be useful for Sunraku and the other players. Not to mention we learn he’ll fight Lycagon again soon. Let’s hope it happens in season 2.
