Has Tokyo Vice been renewed for Season 3? Here’s what we know:

Tokyo Vice – Renewed or Cancelled?

Summary

  • Tokyo Vice is a crime/thriller show from HBO based on Jake Adelstein’s book of the same name.
  • HBO, like other networks and streaming platforms, determines whether to renew a show based on various factors such as completion rate, viewership numbers, production costs, and more.
  • As of now, the network has not announced a third season for Tokyo Vice, although according to the creators, there might be one in the works.

Tokyo Vice became an instant hit with its first season two years ago. Ansel Elgort, Ken Watanabe, and Rachel Keller star in pivotal roles in both seasons. The show revolves around the events narrated by Jake Adelstein in his book. Adelstein became the first American writer to land a job with a major Japanese newspaper to fulfil his dreams of becoming a successful journalist.

The second season has recently concluded. In our opinion, the follow-up is a much better offering than the first one and succeeds largely because of the foundation already laid. There is still a huge scope for storytelling to continue for another season, but will there be a Season 3?

If you’ve binged the entire second season and are itching to know if there will be a third, this article has all the details you’re looking for.

Here’s everything we know:

What is Tokyo Vice about?

Tokyo Vice revolves around Jake Adelstein’s first encounter with Japan as a foreign journalist. Local detective Hiroto Katagiri is another protagonist in the story. His character is known for his stout morals and a balanced view of the Yakuza, i.e., the Japanese crime gangs. Katagiri believes that they are a necessary evil in society, completely invincible, and hence, they must be accommodated with civilians.

Sato is a young member of the Chihara-kai, one of the leading gumis in Tokyo. His humble background and upstanding morals impress the gumi’s boss, Ishida. Other major characters like Samantha, Eimi, and Tozawa also feature in central roles throughout the first two seasons.

We have extensive coverage of the show across the site, which you can find here.

Has Tokyo Vice Been Renewed for Season 3?

HBO is yet to make a definitive decision about Tokyo Vice’s future. JT Rogers, the showrunner for the first two seasons, discussed the third season in an interview recently.

“The last reveal, which is Mrs. Tozawa turning to Jake and saying, ‘I’m the one that sent you that f–king tape!’ I hope that came as a big surprise … But then also, once you hear that, there’s a slight retroactive feeling of a lot of pieces falling into place.

I don’t want to give ideas away yet for Season 3 that we haven’t — we’re not set yet. We’re waiting to find out if we could do it. The characters that are with us, I love them all,” he added, though he said there are other characters waiting to fill in this world. Rogers also promised to continue exploring “complicated moral themes.”

What do we know about Tokyo Vice Season 3?

As of now, we have no details about when Season 3 of Tokyo Vice could possibly air, or who will star in it yet. HBO is expected to retain the show on its roster given its success with the fans and critics.

If the show returns, viewers can anticipate a season with approximately 10 episodes, each lasting around 1 hour. However, nothing is confirmed yet, but we’ll be sure to update this page as soon as any new information comes in.
