Fans of That ’70s Show got a new spin-off series to binge in January, and the show released to mixed reactions from the get-go. Some fans were really happy to see their favourite sitcom reprised with many of its original characters while others felt like a spin-off was unnecessary.

Despite that, the 2023 Netflix original series, That ’90s Show, was a success on the streaming giant.

The first season of the show consists of 10 episodes in total and takes a 20-year leap after the original show. This new series follows the life of a teenager – Leia Forman and her teenage years when she spends the summer with her grandparents and somehow makes the same mistakes as her parents did in their teenage years.

After finishing the 10 episodes of its first season, you may be wondering if the popular Netflix Spin-off sitcom, That ’90s Show, has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know:

What is That ’90s Show about?

The new spin-off show centres on Leia Forman, the teenage daughter of Eric Forman and Donna Pinciotti who spends the summer of 1995 with her grandparents. While at the same place where he dad grew up and fell in love with her mom, Leia tries forming bonds of her own. The show takes a leap of 20 years from its predecessor and features most of its original cast in the spin-off.

After making friends with her next-door neighbour – Gwen and her friends, Leia starts falling for Jay Kelso who is the son of Michael Kelso and Jackie Burkhart. Throughout the 10 episodes of this first season, we see Leia trying to navigate between bonding with her grandparents, making lifelong friends like her parents, and finding true love in the best summer of her life.

Has That ’90s Show been renewed for Season 2?

There is some good news for fans who have only now started enjoying this new spin-off of their favourite sitcom. The Netflix original series, That ’90s Show, has been officially renewed for a second season.

On February 3, less than a month after the first season’s release, the makers of That ’90s Show announced that the show had been renewed for a second season. Bonnie and Terry Tyler, the makers of That ’90s Show said, “We here in Point Place are thrilled that we’re doing a second season. We’d like to thank all of the fans old and new for tuning in. We’re truly grateful. Going to Point Place last season was a real treat for all of us. We’re thrilled to return.”

The makers have also revealed that Season 2 will be longer than the first season and will consist of 16 episodes in total. While the release date of That ’90s Show Season 2 is yet to be confirmed, the makers have revealed that the upcoming season of the teen sitcom show will take place in the summer of 1996. This could mean that the show could come back anywhere from as early as 2023 to January 2024.

What we know about That ’90s Show Season 2 so far:

Other than the fact that the show is coming back for Season 2 with most of its original cast and that it would have a total of 16 episodes, barely anything is known about the upcoming season of That ’90s Show so far. From where things were left off in Season 1, we can expect a lot of chaos in Season 2.

After Nate and Leia’s almost kiss, there is a lot left to unpack in the upcoming season. It is possible that this could alter Nate’s relationship with Nikki. On the other hand, since Jay wants a long-distance relationship with Leia, it is possible that the upcoming season will show how guilty Liea feels about it.

It is possible that Fez and Sherri’s relationship further develops in the upcoming season and we get to see Fez take on the role of a father figure for Nate and Gwen. Moreover, fans can expect more cameos from the cast members of the original show.
