Renewed or cancelled? Will there be a Squid Game Season 2?

Renewed Or Cancelled?

Squid Game is an utterly enthralling K-drama boasting good acting, a gorgeous aesthetic and an absolutely riveting plotline. The style of this show leans into something like Black Mirror while the overall plotline is much closer to Liar Game or Alice In Borderland. The ensuing result is one of this year’s most original and unique Korean dramas.

What is Squid Game about?

Our main character here is Gi-Hun, a down-on-his-luck guy who finds himself obsessed with gambling and struggling to make ends meet. He’s completely debt-ridden and owes millions to both loan sharks and the bank.

However, all of that changes when he’s invited along to a mysterious game, with billions of won on the line. 456 players enter and whoever survives after six rounds, comes away victorious. Each round plays out like a game show, with these tasks revolving around playground games, adding a deliciously twisted edge to the escape-room formula.

Has Squid Game been renewed for season 2?

At the time of writing, Squid Game HAS been renewed for a second season so expect to see more of this one in the future. Squid Game has been Netflix’s most popular original so it shouldn’t really come as much of a surprise that this is the case.

Given Alice In Borderland’s immense popularity last year, and how quickly Netflix greenlit a sequel for that one, we’re delighted that Netflix have renewed Squid Game.

We’ll be sure to update this section with more details over the coming weeks and months!

What we know about season 2 so far

Barely anything is known about season 2 at this point, given the first has only just come out. With a second season now confirmed, it leaves plenty of possibilities for the future. We could well see Gi-Hun return along with the Front Man and a couple of familiar VIPs too.

A second season could also shift the perspective across to taking down this established hierarchy, or diving into the past and the origins of the games themselves. There’s definitely a lot of different ideas Squid Game could explore, but it’s all speculation at this point.
