The popularity of Korean dramas is at an all-time high and it is common knowledge that a streaming giant like Netflix is monetising on this popularity. Every month there are multiple original K-dramas that are broadcast on the network for the entertainment of viewers and Mask Girl is one such graphic drama that is buzzing among fans of the genre.
Mask Girl is a seven episode mini-series that follows the story of a girl who grows up with the dream of being a stage performer but is ignored and put in the background because she is not stereotypically beautiful.
The show narrates Kim Mo-mi’s journey from being an online adult performer to a mass murderer after a chaotic turn of events changes her life completely. Now, as the first season of Mask Girl has finally ended, there is one lingering question that many fans have after watching the season finale. Has this been renewed?

What is Mask Girl about?
The show follows the life of Kim Mo-mi, an ordinary office woman with a severe sense of inferiority complex, caught up in various incidents while working as an internet broadcast jockey with her face covered by a mask.
Joo Oh-nam is Kim Mo-mi’s co-worker who harbours a one-sided crush on her. Just like Mo-mi, Oh-nam also suffers from an inferiority complex about his appearance. Oh-nam’s only source of joy is watching internet broadcasts and things get chaotic when he’s swept up in an unexpected incident involving Mo-mi.

Will there be a Season 2 of Mask Girl?
At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed Mask Girl for a second season.
Generally Netflix, like other streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before Netflix make a decision over a show’s future.
So far, Mask Girl has had a pretty positive reaction from audiences and critics alike within the initial days of its release. The show is currently seeing favourable reviews with a 7.4/10 rating on IMDB and a 7.8/10 rating on MyDramaList at the time of writing.
However, in December 2023, Netflix changed it to a limited series which means there will be no new season.
What we know about Mask Girl Season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about Mask Girl Season 2 right now. The conclusion of Mask Girl Season 1 is definite.
Having said that though, if there were a season 2 of Mask Girl it would probably cover Mi-mo’s journey growing up all by herself and the possibility of Mo-mi being released from prison in order to lead a normal life with her daughter.
