Ever since it was announced that ace filmmaker, Sanjay Leela Bhansali, was going to produce a TV show about female courtesans from Pre-Independence India, there has been a lot of buzz around the project. After waiting for the show to air for over a year, Heeramandi has finally dropped on Netflix and is already creating a lot of buzz online.
Now that the first season of Heeramandi has aired completely, you may be wondering if this political drama has been renewed or cancelled. Well, wonder no more! Here’s what we know about a renewal:
What is Heeramandi Season 1 about?
Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi is an Indian Hindi-language period drama television series. The Netflix original narrates the stories of the lives of tawaifs (courtesans) who work in the red-light district of Heera Mandi in Lahore. The show is set during the Indian independence movement against the British Raj and narrates the role of these courtesans in the struggle for freedom from British rule.

Has Heeramandi been renewed for Season 2?
At the time of writing, Netflix has not renewed Heeramandi for Season 2. The show has not officially been renewed for a follow-up season yet. However, that could change given the popularity of the show.
The show currently receives a lot of positive reviews from fans and critics alike. This one has an IMDB rating of 7.3 out of 10 for the first episode and 8.9 out of 10 for its season finale. Given the popularity of Heeramandi, the show may be considered for a follow-up season.
However, as Episode 8 of Heeramandi: The Diamond Baza ends on a pretty conclusive note, there is little to no hope for the show to be renewed for another season. Barely anything is known about Season 2 right now, as the makers haven’t officially announced a renewal for this Netflix Original. If the show is to be renewed based on the way things ended in the first season, we can expect an update on the Heeramandi’s renewal in the months to come.
There’s certainly some scope for this to expand out and evolve though, and we could see the consequences of Alamzeb’s actions. We can also expect to see how the freedom struggle is kickstarted all thanks to the contribution and sacrifice of the courtesans. The follow-up season could also talk about the changes that were made in Heeramandi following India’s freedom from British rule as well as after the partition of India.
