Renewed Or Cancelled?
White House Plumbers is another HBO special that is crisp, detailed, and excruciatingly entertaining. Woody Harrelson and Justin Theroux are at the centre of the retelling of the Watergate scandal that changed the face of politics in the US forever. The five-part series started airing in May and has recently finished its final episode.
If you’ve also finished watching this one, you may be wondering if this has been renewed or cancelled. Here’s what we know so far.
What is White House Plumbers Season 1 about?
The term itself refers to the men who were part of and hired through the Committee To Re-Elect the President back in 1972. President Nixon wanted to have another term and gain ground on his Democratic counterpart, Nixon conceived this committee through his close confidants. Howard Hunt, ex-CIA, and Gordon Liddy, ex-FBI, were the perfect profiles to lead this committee and do the president’s dirty bidding.
The men, and five others whom they hired, made various attempts to break into the Democratic National Alliance office in the Watergate complex. They were caught in the last attempt by the police and this game of dirty politics and sensationalist scandal unravelled to jolt the foundations of American democracy.
Has White House Plumbers been renewed for season 2?
Unfortunately for fans of White House Plumbers, the show has not been renewed by HBO. The main reason behind the decision is that the show was conceived as a mini-series, and moreover since it is based on actual events, there is no point in further extending it.
Generally HBO, like other networks and streaming platforms, gauges numerous metrics before renewing a show, including how many people initially watch it and then looking at the drop-off rate. With some shows, cancellations or renewals happen quickly (ala. Squid Game, Bridgerton etc.) Other times, it can take months before the networks and streamers make a decision over a show’s future.
White House Plumbers has received rave reviews from critics and audiences. The show’s treatment of the story and elements of comedy and authenticity in bringing to life the actual events have been praised. White House Plumbers has not been renewed for season 2. You can watch the entire show on HBO’s newly launched digital streaming service Max, along with exclusive original HBO content though.
