The Gold is a six-episode series from the BBC created by Neil Forsythe. It revolves around the Brink’s-Mat gold robbery that took place in London in 1983. Although it is not a direct retelling, the series focuses more heavily on the abstract aspects of the robbery and how it changed the lives of the men involved in it. Hugh Bonneville, Charlotte Spencer, and Jack Lowden star in pivotal roles.

What is The Gold Season 1 about?
Season 1 of The Gold begins with the Brink’s-Mat robbery and how it was affected. As revealed, it was an inside job. One of the security guards guarding the vaults connived with the robbers to let them in. They found the gold by pure luck and chose to take that instead of foreign currency that was worth pennies when compared to the bullion. DCI Brian Boyce (Bonneville) was tasked with forming a special team and hunting the gold down.
McAvoy, who was one of the robbers involved with the robbery, took part of the gold to Kenneth Noye, a gold tradesman who dabbled in more shady crafts. Noye connived with goldsmith John Palmer and smelted the gold from Brink’s-Mat by erasing its identity and then supplying it back into the market since selling it directly would have been impossible.
Gordon Parry and solicitor Edwyn Cooper handled the money bit of the chain. They took the money deposited into Swiss accounts on sale of the smelted gold and then funneled it through sell corporations and fronts to ensure it didn’t have a paper trail.
Has The Gold been renewed for Season 2?
According to The Sun, The Gold has been renewed for a second season. However, no release date has been set.

In their article, The Sun reported, “The second series is likely to explore the life of Charlie Wilson, one of the Great Train Robbers who was involved in laundering huge chunks of cash made from the sale of the gold.”
