Our Flag Means Death, a period drama cum romantic comedy led by showrunner David Jenkins, just had a wonderful run of its second season. The series follows the life of Stede Bonnet, a member of the gentry who leaves his polished life to become a pirate on a boat he calls The Revenge.
Rhys Darby and Taika Waititi play the two main leads while the rest of the ensemble cast includes Con O’Neill, Joel Fry, Nathan Foad, Samson Kayo, Vico Ortiz, Ewen Bremner, Matthew Maher, Guz Khan, David Fane and many more.

What is Our Flag Means Death Season 2 about?
Season 1 covers Stede’s fumbling pirate captaincy as he brings a bunch of oddballs and turns them into a family. He also meets the fearsome pirate, Blackbeard (otherwise known as Edward Teach). At the end of Season 1, Stede and Ed come together and then fall apart.
Season 2 picks up the pieces of their romantic relationship. The crew of The Revenge is scattered and Ed has fallen back into the violent ways of Blackbeard, under the influence of his first mate Izzy Hands. But among Season 2’s many whimsical and violent escapades, Stede and Ed find their way back to each other.

Has Our Flag Means Death been renewed for Season 3?
Our Flag Means Death has officially been cancelled by HBO Max. The showrunner David Jenkins did talk about a Season 3 and said that Stede and Ed’s story is a three-chapter story. The series also received positive reviews, a generous fan base and a few awards. However, despite being proud of the show they made, Max will not be moving forward with a Season 3.
What we know about season 3 so far:
Our Flag Means Death has been cancelled so there won’t be a third season. It is unlikely that this decision will be overturned but we’ll be sure to update this section if things should change.
