What is Chief Detective 1958 about?
The classic Korean drama – Chief Inspector is finally getting a reboot after airing 880 episodes from 1971 to 1989. The upcoming Lee Je-hoon starrer Chief Detective 1958 is a spin-off series and a prequel to the Korean daily soap that aired for 19 long years.
Chief Detective 1958 follows the origin story of Detective Park Young-han who eventually went on to solve crime mysteries with his team of detectives.

Has Chief Detective 1958 been renewed for season 2?
At the time of writing, MBC have not renewed Chief Detective 1958 for season 2. Given the ratings over the weeks, it’ll be interesting to see if they actually do renew this for a follow-up.
The ratings began with a pretty decent 10.01% share nationwide but since then, the show has been increasing in popularity with every passing week, with the later episodes maintaining that same level.
Despite the strong ratings, it’s extremely rare to find Korean dramas renewed for another season. That has changed in recent years but given the sheer wealth of talent in this that are sure to move onto other projects, we predict that Chief Detective 1958 will not be renewed for a second season.

What we know about season 2 so far:
Barely anything is known about season 2 right now. Given most Korean dramas are reserved to one season, it’s rare to find these sort of shows renewed. With the rare exception of ongoing Netflix shows (Love ft. Marriage and Divorce, Hospital Playlist etc.) then it seems unlikely that this one will be renewed.
Having said that though, we have seen Taxi Driver and Tale of the Nine Tailed renewed recently, alongside Alchemy of Souls too. Given how steady the ratings are for this series, could we see this one buck the trend? It seems very unlikely that Chief Detective 1958 will, but you never know! We’ll be sure to update this section when we know more.
