Rap Sh!t – Season 2 Episode 7 “No Parking” Recap & Review

No Parking

Episode 7 of Rap Sh!t’s Season 2 begins with yet another IG live. Mia and Shawna have taken it upon themselves to make something happen for their careers. There is radio silence on all fronts, especially Francois, who has remained out of touch since the Billboard party. Although the duo have a lot of ideas, they need “beats” to curate a new track. Shawna hasn’t responded to many of Maurice’s texts. He has profusely apologized about recording their conversations. But Shawna isn’t ready to listen to his excuses.

When nothing is going on for the girls, there is one underrated and ignored person who steps up. Chastity meets the duo at Checker’s and promises to hit up her A&R chick, Alex, from the party. Mia might have had a chance to make significant inroads if only for her promiscuity. Courtney has ignored her texts and Cash is completely out of the picture. Mia and Shawna ask Chastity to keep her undivided focus on managing them.

Only a full-time effort can be worth something in the end. Meanwhile, Lamont and Tiffany are becoming a serious pair. Melissa has been noticing this too and Mia confirms suspicions raised by Nellie through her. Alex invites Chastity to a party thrown by her label. Since she is in charge of Artists & Repertoire, she is the most appropriate resource person for the Duke to target. To make things easier for her, Alex seems very interested in Chastity. She introduces her to Kirk, a Senior VP at the label.

Both seem to like Chastity; that’s the kind of personality our girl has got! Easy-going, honest, and a true blood hustler who never stops working or takes no for an answer. Francois finally has a meeting with Shawna. He reveals that ever since the fire incident, he has been on a retreat. But that has triggered an internal deliberation of things. His new perspective dictates his desire to do meaningful work. And as a result, he has decided to drop Reina.

Shawna is surprised to hear it. She is even more taken aback – and demonstrates measured optimism – when Francois says he wants to produce an EP for Mia and her. Shawna clarifies that if it happens, their terms will be given importance and some weight in the final decision-making. Francois has only one demand – “no other distractions,” which means kicking out Chastity. Shawna then meets Maurice, who uploaded a video on IG, warning Shawna not to “back him into a corner.”

Shawna is livid with him for what he did and how he is threatening her now. Maurice tells the truth about the recordings. His public defender offered him a plea deal which would mean he would be out in 15 months. However, if he takes someone down with him, it could go further down. Shawna becomes very defensive and instantly turns on her self-preservation mode. She encourages Maurice to take the deal and offers to take care of his family through her music career.

Mia, meanwhile, goes to a recording studio where Courtney and Lamont have called her. They have recorded a dope song together that needs female vocals. Mia does a great job and hangs with the crew. It is revealed that Reina is now being managed by Gat of all people. Lord AK is still in a coma with chances of him making a full recovery looking slim. Lamont drops the gauntlet on Mia after Courtney and the others leave. He is extremely unhappy with her for flirting with Courtney right in front of Lamont and acting like it is not a big deal.

Mia strikes back with accusations about Tiffany and how this relationship could cost Melissa her only friend – Lulu, Tiffany’s daughter. The spat gets uglier as Lamont calls Mia a “hoe” and says that she inherits this trait of using sex to advance herself from Robyn. Lamont also excludes Mia from all his future music endeavours. Chastity has a close call with Alex, as an unpaid prostitute, Melody, approaches her at the bar. However, the night ends well for her as Alex and Chastity sleep together.

The Episode Review

Episode 7 leaves the finale for Rap Sh!t’s Season 2 at the cusp of a big moment of reckoning. So many breakthroughs for our girls in just a single episode! While the talent has always been there, Mia and Shawna have been greatly unlucky with their breaks. They might have three coming their way but there is bound to be conflict.

The episode brought forth new territory for Chastity’s character. We haven’t seen her be intimate with anyone before. It feels nice that she might finally have a chance at a relationship. It is a very slim one but who knows. She remained true to her character and once again carved a way out with her constant hustling.

Shawna’s hypocritical suggestion to Maurice is an insult. Now that the tables have turned, she wants him to take the fall for everything? I personally do not like this tangent to her character, although it is understandable why she would do it. Francois’ offer seems genuine but given his background, it is difficult to accept anything he says at face value. And finally, Mia and Lamont’s showdown at the studio. I am still confused if Courtney masterminded this fight by actively flirting with Mia in front of Lamont.

If that is the case, what a slimy move! Lamont’s low blow is just not acceptable and it will strain their relationship. They really let loose in the final moments in a way that was not expected. Let’s hope Melissa remains unaffected and Rap Sh!t concludes on a positive note for our girls!
