Palworld Guide: How to Get & Cook Food

Palworld Guide: Food

Palworld is the latest open world craze that’s taking the PC world by storm right now. And the alpha has finally dropped! With fantastic art direction, some great mechanics and a moreish gameplay style, there’s plenty to see and do with this one.

The game itself is pretty long, and you’ll find yourself captivated by the world for hours so do expect that playtime to creep up quickly – especially if you want to try and collect everything and complete every achievement this game has to offer!

Food Types

Food comes in two forms within Palworld. The first comes from foraging berries and mushrooms, which can be found in the overworld. These do respawn over time too so if you find yourself standing in a large, open field full of berries, make note of its location on the world map to return to later.

Meat meanwhile, is dropped from all kinds of different Pals. Chikipis and Lamballs are incredibly common in the world and these drop various bits of meat. Chikipis also drop eggs too which can be cooked for tastier (and more nourishing) meals.

Feeding Pals

The Pals you’ve collected working at the base need to eat too! In order to do so, you’ll need to build a Feed Box to place in your Base. Interact with it and fill the item with food. Then, the Pals will feed themselves without you having to interject.

However, as you continue on your journey and pick up more powerful Pals, they’ll need extra food to keep themselves nourished. Berries won’t be enough – and that’s where the Cooler comes in handy.

Unlocked at Level 13, the Cooler requires Ice Organs and Ingots but in exchange, will allow you to keep better food which will satisfy your pals.

Spoilt Food & Longer-Lasting Meals

When you pick up any of this food, you’ll notice a timer counting down in your menu next to the item in question. When this depletes, food will spoil, meaning you’ll need to collect more. However, there is a workaround here to make it last longer.

Whenever more food of the same kind is picked up, that spoilage timer in your inventory is reset. So if your health is full and you need to try and use up loads of food, either cook more at a campsite (more on that shortly) or forage for more of the same item to reset the counter.

Different food has different timers too, and that flows nicely into the other part of food – cooking.

How To Cook Food

The final part of cooking comes from another neat feature at your camp. Not only does a campfire provide warmth (and we’d recommend putting your Pal’s Straw Beds nearby so they too can keep cosy and warm) it also allows us to cook meals.

Simply interact with the campfire and you’ll notice a list of meals you can cook. Of course, you’ll need the relevant items from out in the world in order to cook, but these are generally higher quality than the standard berries and cold meat you’ll naturally grab through the world. This will, subsequently, help you to survive longer out in the world and keep your hunger topped up.

Hopefully this guide will help you along the way in becoming the best Palworld hunter you can be! Are we missing anything here that you’d recommend players know? Do let us know in the comments below!
